John Spearing was the second-longest-serving horse trainer in the country and his notable accomplishments include training Run And Skip the winner of the 1985 Welsh Grand National.
Half a decade ago Spearing had a scary training experience when a two-year-old horse became aggressive during a gallop and caused him injuries that could have taken his life.
After the two-year-old horse lashed out on the gallops during a training incident Spearing suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be transported to the intensive care unit at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital by air ambulance. The incident left him with a head injury stroke and bleeding in the brain.
After fully recovering from the injuries sustained in the training incident Spearing continued his career. However, almost three years later he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
After his cancer diagnosis, Spearing’s health began to decline and he required medical care for over two years. Spearing died peacefully on Thursday surrounded by his family. His daughter Teresa confirmed the news of his peaceful passing.
