With a rather dramatic appearance in the spotlight, South Korean screen favorite Kim Go-Eun won several awards and recognitions with her debut film. The actress stole the hearts of many after nailing her role as Eun-go in the critically acclaimed movie – A Muse, which was released in 2012. Her great performance not only secured her prominent fame but also earned her awards such as the Blue Dragon Film Prize, the Grand Bell Prize, and the Korean Film Critics Association Prize. In fact, in the same year that she made her debut, she won the most awards for Best New Actress in South Korea.

She subsequently became a permanent face on the big and small screen, appearing in films such as Coin Locker Girl (2015) and the tv series Cheese in the Trap, all of which were also very successful.

Kim Go-Eun Bio, Age

The TV sensation was born on 2 July 1991 in the city of Seoul, South Korea. However, her parents moved to Beijing, China, in 1994 when she was three years old. The family remained there for about ten years.

Go-Eun’s first interest in the entertainment industry was to become a filmmaker. The inspiration came from having seen Chen Kaige’s Together more than a few times. She cried every time she saw it and wanted to be part of the movie world, but instead of pursuing her original dream of becoming a filmmaker, the actress found herself in the theater by chance. She enrolled in the School of Drama at the Korea National University of Arts to improve her skills.

Without any experience as an actress, Kim Go-Eun started her acting career in 2012 in the critically acclaimed film A Muse. This was her ticket to fame and she made the most of it. Interestingly enough, she stumbled upon the role by chance, which helped her to instant fame after she met director Jung Ji-woo through friends. She found herself auditioning for the movie without having any time to prepare herself. Nevertheless, Go-Eun stood out among the about 300 actresses who auditioned for the same role. The director described her skills as simply outstanding.

Kim, however, described her first experience in front of the camera as nerve-wracking. She was a sack of nerves at first and couldn’t imagine doing this for the rest of her life. But after a few scenes, she became addicted and could not imagine a life without acting anymore. Nonetheless, Go-Eun saw the need for further academic training, which led to a break in her acting career from 2013 to 2015, after which she returned with a bang. She celebrated her screen comeback with the thriller Monster, in which she tactfully portrayed her versatility as a developmentally disabled woman seeking revenge for her murdered sister.

Even though her debut was impressive, her comeback was, even more, captivating with film roles that were appealing to her from all angles. She was cast alongside Kim Hye-soo in Coin locker Girl in 2015 and received her first invitation to the Festival de Cannes that same year. Her next film appearance was in Memories of the Sword alongside actress Jeon Do-Yeon, who happens to be her role model. The Advocate was close on the heels of the film Memories of the Sword: A Missing Body and Canola.

She made her television debut in 2016 in the cable series Cheese in the Trap, followed by Kim Eun-sook’s fantasy drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.
