Although Jim Carrey is still alive, his old girlfriend and partner, Cathriona White, is not. She was found dead in September 2015 in her Los Angeles apartment following an overdose of prescription drugs in an apparent suicide case. White, who was a make-up artist, started dating Carrey in 2012 as part of a start-stop relationship. She was known to be struggling with depression and had always threatened suicide in her personal notes and social media reports since 2012.

But after her death, Carrey was the subject of two legal proceedings brought against him by her husband; Mark Burton, with whom she was still officially married at the time of her death even though they were going through a divorce; and her mother, Brigid Sweetman. Both trials accuse Carrey of making prescription drugs available to Cathriona White to kill herself. And even though Jim Carrey made his own statement denying any wrongdoing that led to his girlfriend’s death, he will still face trial in court, according to a judge’s decision in June 2017.
