Sonya Deville made headlines in August 2020 after she and a friend Mandy Rose were involved in a terrifying incident at Deville’s home in Florida. Phillip A. Thomas II had been following Deville for months.
In an attempt to kidnap her, he broke into her home with a knife and pepper spray. Deville and Rose were able to flee the house and summon assistance and Thomas was eventually apprehended by police.
He was charged with aggravated stalking armed burglary and attempted armed kidnapping. While Deville and Rose escaped unharmed the incident clearly left an impression on both of them.
Deville took a break from wrestling to focus on her health and process the trauma of the experience. Deville was reported to have filed a lawsuit against Thomas in November 2020.
He had caused her emotional distress and violated her privacy she claimed by leaking private photos and videos obtained from her home. The lawsuit is still pending and Deville has not spoken publicly in great detail about the incident.
The incident also had legal ramifications for Deville. She was charged with two misdemeanor counts of simple battery in January 2021 after allegedly engaging in a physical altercation with Rose at the WWE Performance Center in 2019.
