Regé-Jean Page (34) made his international breakthrough with his role as the Duke of Hastings in the Netflix hit Bridgerton. In the first season of the romantic series, the actor starred as a British nobleman alongside Phoebe Dynevor (27). In the following season, however, the Brit was no longer to be seen. Much had been rumored about the reasons for his series end – Regé now explained why he stopped at “Bridgerton”!

In an interview with JustJared, the 34-year-old commented on his departure from the show: “I was hired for a job and I did this job.” It was clear to him from the start that his character’s story would end with the first season. The fact that the Duke became a fan favorite after the “Bridgerton” premiere did not change the plan. More stories about Daphne and Simon should have been invented: “We weren’t hired for that,” Regé said honestly.

With his series’ success, the actor seems to have finished completely. The love chaos surrounding Anthony Bridgerton, Kate Sharma, and her sister Edwina occupied millions of viewers last year. But the hottie apparently stopped watching season two after he left: “I didn’t get it,” he revealed to Variety.
