A tragic car accident occurred in Cardiff on 5 March 2023 killing three young people called Sophie Russon Eve Smith and Darcy Ross and injuring two others.

Following the tragic accident in Cardiff’s St Mellons area, the two injured people were immediately rushed to hospital with severe injuries.

They had all spent the night in Newport toured Porthcawl and Trecco Bay and were driving back through Cardiff when the accident occurred.

According to South Wales police three of the five missing young people have been declared deceased and two have been discovered alive but severely injured. They were last seen on March 5th.

Eve Smith Sophie Russon and Darcy Ross all 20 years old were out having fun on Friday night at the Muffler club and in Maesglas Newport.

They then reportedly left to travel to Trecco Bay in Porthcawl but never arrived.

According to multiple reports, the three young ladies were with Rafel Jeanne and Shane Loughlin who were said to be from Cardiff. It’s unclear whether they knew each other from the start or met for the first time that night.

Furthermore, two injured individuals were rushed to the hospital following a tragic accident.

The car they were last seen in was found just after midnight on the A48 a major road in the city of St Mellons.

Friends and family of the missing group took to social media over the weekend to ask for assistance in locating them before the Volkswagen Tiguan they were traveling in was found in the early hours of Monday.

Furthermore, the police stated that the Specialized officers are assisting and supporting the families in any way they can.

The case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct in accordance with normal procedure.

The A48 Eastern Boulevard in St. Mellons is closed in both directions.

How Did The Cardiff Car Crash Take Place?

According to police the car carrying five people left the A48 and was engaged in a traffic accident. It is the main road connecting Llanedeyrn and Newport.

Furthermore one of the primary foci of the inquiry is determining when the car crashed and how long the three dead women and two injured men were trapped in or near the vehicle.

Similarly, a relative of one of the five victims stated that she had searched the streets of Cardiff and Newport on her own because she did not believe the officers were treating the missing seriously enough.

The investigation however is being led by the officers and Gwent Police with help from South Wales Police.

An announcement from South Wales Police at 8 am on March 5th morning mentioned: “We are at the crash site of an ongoing accident on the roundabout that connects Eastern Avenue with Newport Road and also the A48 in Cardiff.

For the time being the road is closed in both ways. It is also expected to stay closed for an extended period of time.”
