Alex Morgan is a well-known American football player, FIFA Women’s World Cup winner, and Olympic gold medalist.

She was born Alexandra Patricia Morgan on 2 July 1989 in San Dimas, California, as the daughter of Pamela S. and Michael T. Morgan.
Morgan and her two older siblings (Jeni and Jeri) grew up in Diamond Bar, a suburb about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. She graduated from Diamond Bar High School.
Club Career
At school, she took part in all sports and was known for her speed and sprinting ability. Although Morgan showed an interest in sports from an early age, she only played club football when she joined the Cypress Elite at the age of 14.
While at the club, she won the Coast Soccer League (CSL) championship for under-16s. She also played in the All-League three times and was named All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Morgan has also played for regional and state Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams. At the age of 17, she was appointed to the United States Women’s National Football Team for the under-20s.
She also played for the California Golden Bears (2007 to 2010), leading the Golden BearscGolden Bears in the goalscoring competition and helping them reach the NCAA tournament for four consecutive years.

Before going international, Alex played for a number of other clubs in the country. From 2011 until early 2012 she was with Western New York Flash when she had to leave due to legal and financial problems. For the rest of 2012, she was with the Seattle Sounders Women.
In 2013, Morgan was one of three players from the U.S. national team who joined Portland Thorns FC for the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League. She remained with them until 2015.
Toward the end of 2015, Morgan left Portland Thorns FC to join Orlando Pride. She has remained with the club ever since, except that she was loaned to French champions Lyon for $33,000 a month in 2017.
Alex Morgan International Career
Due to an ACL injury, she sustained during a game against the men’s national junior team, Morgan was unable to train with the U.S. U-20 women’s national team until April 2008.
Her first appearance with the team was at the 2008 CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship in Puebla, Mexico, where Morgan scored her first international goal against Cuba. She was then part of the team that represented the country at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2008 in Chile.
In that tournament, Morgan scored four goals in matches against North Korea, France, and Argentina. Her fourth goal became the magic touch that earned the USA the gold medal. The goal was also voted the best goal of the tournament and was later named FIFA’s second-best goal of the year.
Her performance at the tournament also earned her the Bronze Shoe as the third-highest scorer of the tournament and the Silver Ball as the second-best player of the tournament after Sydney Leroux.
She was adopted by the senior national team. She made her first appearance in 2010 as a substitute in a match against Mexico. Since then Alex Morgan has remained a household name in women’s football in the USA. She was part of the team that played at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 and the 2012 Olympic Games in London and scored the goal in extra time in the semi-final match against Canada that sent the USA into the gold medal match against Japan.
She has also played at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
