Oliveira began her athletic career in Fluminense as a gymnast before becoming a diver. She was very good at diving, so she was soon appointed to the Brazilian National Team of Divers at a very young age. She trained with the team in China and Colombia, and in 2014 she took part in the Youth Olympic Summer Games in Nanjing, China. However, Oliveira did not win a medal at that tournament, but she remained determined and took part in several other international tournaments, including the FINA Diving Grand Prix.

Rio Olympics Sex Scandal

During the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, the Brazilian synchronized diver was involved in a sex scandal that made headlines in the media. Ingrid Oliveira is said to have thrown her team/roommate Giovanna Pedroso out of her room in the Olympic village to have marathon sex with her Brazilian Olympic colleague and canoeist Pedro Goncalves the night before her Olympic performance, as the local media called it.

In the following day’s match, the two finished last in the women’s 10-meter synchronized platform jump – a performance that the local media described as “pathetic”.

Although the Pan American medalist and her teammate had had problems before, what happened the night before her Olympic performance was just the last straw.

Ingrid Oliveira is said to have taken Goncalves back to the apartment she shared with Pedroso in the Olympic Village that evening and asked if she and her partner (Pedro Goncalves) could share her bedroom.

After an argument described as heated, Pedroso agreed and went to another room to sleep, but later she told the Brazilian team managers about Oliveira’s appointment.

Pedroso was angry with Oliveira for throwing her out of her room and losing focus on the competition time just hours before the competition. She swore that she would never again dive in sync with Ingrid Oliveira and that after the Olympics she would concentrate on her individual [diving] and not be dependent on anyone. After the Olympics, the duo announced their separation.

Pedro Goncalves’ answer to all this was when he was asked that “it’s his private life he doesn’t talk about”. And for Oliveira, she answered on her Instagram page and wrote: “Mistakes, everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect except God”.
