Nabil Fekir is a French national football player of Algerian origin who can be used both as a striker and as an attacking midfielder. He currently plays for the French-based club Lyon.

The talented attacker, who was named a 2014-15 Ligue 1 youth footballer by the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP), was in the midst of a tug-of-war between his country of origin and his country of birth when he came of age. Despite his father’s objections, Fekir decided to play for France and is one of the teams that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Nabil Fekir was born on 18 July 1993 in Lyon, France, the son of Algerian parents. He grew up on the streets of Lyon and played football before joining a youth team at the age of 6.

Fekir began his journey to the top of his game in 2000 when he joined AC Villeurbanne. He played for the team for a year before moving to FC Vaulx-en-Velin, where he played for two years and then switched again. In 2003 he moved to SC Caluire and later, in 2005, to a dream move to Lyon, but it turned out to be a nightmare as he was dismissed from the team because he was not strong enough. He then moved back to FC Vaulx-en-Velin, where he played for three years before moving to Saint-Priest in 2010.

With Saint-Priest, a young Fekir began attracting scouts from all over the country, even from Lyon, the club that had previously sacked him. In 2011, Nabil Fekir put his pettiness aside and returned to the team he had always wanted to play for. From 2011 to 2013, he had a strong presence in the Lyon B team before making his first-team debut in August 2013. He subsequently appeared 17 times in all competitions for the team and scored his first goal in a Ligue 1 match against Bastia on 27 April 2014.

In the 2014-15 season, Nabil Fekir became something of a pillar of the team, receiving praise from all sides of the country. In the same year, a dispute began between France and Algeria over who the attacker should play for. Although he initially chose Algeria, Fekir decided to represent Les Bleus. In his first full season, he scored 13 goals and 9 assists and was also named Team of the Year in Ligue 1.

In 2017, after Maxime Gonalons was sold to AS Roma, Nabil Fekir was named captain of Lyon, a testament to the influence he has had on his teammates and the club in general. Since the beginning of 2018, it has been speculated that Fekir is seeking to leave the club. It has been reported that the English Premier League club Liverpool paid 60 million euros for his services, which Lyon initially accepted. However, the negotiations eventually failed, and at the time of writing this report, he is still a Lyon player.

He has made a total of 153 appearances and scored 57 goals in the process.

Not much is known about Nabil Fekir’s family, apart from the fact that his father, Mohamed Fekir, is from Algeria and he has a younger brother, Yassin Fekir, who plays football. His father was in the news when his older son chose which country he would show his loyalty to. He had bravely stated in an interview that Nabil Fekir would play for Algeria, but he said that this did not come true.

His younger son Yassin, born on 5 May 1997 in Lyon (France) in 2018, put down on paper a two-year contract with the club in his hometown, having previously represented their youth division Lyon B.

Nabil Fekir is not married and has not given any indication that he is in a love affair with anyone at the moment.

He was appointed to the Algerian squad for friendly matches against Oman and Qatar in 2015 but retired at the last moment to join the French squad, opting for Les Bleus.
