Karl Anderson Biography

The American professional wrestler Chad Allegra, known under his ring name Karl Anderson, was born on January 20, 1980. He grew up at the side of his younger brother, as the two were raised by his mother in Asheville, North Carolina. Karl was lucky enough to receive a baseball scholarship that would have put him through college in his home state, but he was unable to complete his studies at Mars Hill College. He dropped out because he was more interested in a career in wrestling.

Karl moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and immediately began wrestling training at Les Thatcher Main Event Pro Wrestling Camp, a school affiliated with the Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA). He only stayed with them for a short time, however, because almost immediately after starting training at Les Thatcher in 2000, he received a severe blow from a fellow student, Derek Neikirk, which led to a concussion and finally put Karl on the shelf for a little over a year. When he had recovered enough to return to training, Kirk Sheppard, who worked for the Northern Wrestling Federation (NWF) in Cincinnati, introduced him to Roger Ruffen, the head coach of the bone crushers (NWF wrestling school) with whom he trained for many years.

After his lengthy training with the NWF wrestling school, Karl started his first professional fight under his real name on May 10, 2002. Unfortunately, he had to admit defeat to his opponent Zodiac. Karl’s second match was with Prince Justice, also known as the abyss of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). Other wrestlers he met in the early days of his career included Jerry Lawler, The Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant, Shark Boy, and Chris Harris. Karl began his career at NWF as part of the Young Lions, which consisted of four interns who were contemporaries at NWF. When one of the Young Lions, Matt Parks, left the company, Karl joined him as an assistant and eventually began a feud with Jay Donaldson and Ryan Stone. In 2005, a promotional feud between HWA and NWF culminated in a single title fight between Cody Hawk, the HWA champion, and Karl, the NWF champion.

During the annual convention of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), Karl was noticed by Dave Marquez of the New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) Dojo in Los Angeles, who invited him to train in the dojo. He started wrestling on the West Coast after losing the NWF title to Ryan Stone on January 1, 2006. During his stay on the West Coast, Karl was renamed Machine Gun. At this point in his career, Karl became part of the Anderson wrestling family and adopted the family logo spinebuster as his new final maneuver. Over the years, he eventually dropped the connection with the Anderson family. Karl won the British Commonwealth Championship of the NWA but subsequently lost it to Alex Koslov. From time to time Karl visits the Midwest to make cameos for Rufen’s NWF whenever time permits. He is currently the current NWA Heartland States Champion for Ed Chuman’s NWA Midwest.

From 2007 until today, Karl has participated in several wrestling championships under the auspices of prestigious wrestling teams such as the Pro Wrestling Guerilla (2007-2009), Ring of Honor (2007, 2013), and New Japan’s Pro Wrestling. During his stay in New Japan, Karl and Giant Bernard formed a tag team called Bad Intensions. Bad Intensions entered the G1 Tag League in 2010, where they recorded three wins and two defeats. Karl left New Japan to return to WWE later in the year Bad Intensions was dissolved. After leaving New Japan, he played with other clubs for a while, but on May 6, 2015, he was inducted into the Roaster of Global Force Wrestling (GFW).
