Stephen Boss, also known as “tWitch”, was a talented American freestyle hip-hop dancer, choreographer, actor, TV producer, and TV personality born on September 29, 1982. He sadly passed away on December 13, 2022. In 2008, tWitch gained widespread recognition by finishing in second place on the popular dance competition show So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD).
From 2014 until May 2022 tWitch was a regular on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where he often stepped in as a guest host and served as a co-executive producer. He also became a familiar face as Ellen’s sidekick on the game show Ellen’s Game of Games.
Additionally, Stephen Boss and his wife Allison Holker brought joy to many by hosting Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings on Freeform and Disney+ from 2018 to 2020.

Stephen “tWitch” Boss Early Life and Education
Stephen Boss was born on September 29, 1982, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Connie Boss Alexander and Sandford Rose. He finished high school at Lee High School in 2001. After that, he studied dance at Southern Union State Community College in Wadley, Alabama, and Chapman University.
Career
In 2003, Stephen was a semifinalist on MTV’s The Wade Robson Project and finished as a runner-up on the talent show Star Search. He created dance routines for South Korean singer Seven and trained other artists at YG Entertainment including Big Bang.
In 2007, Boss appeared as an uncredited “flamboyant dancer” in Blades of Glory and danced in the film Hairspray. After his time on So You Think You Can Dance he taught dance at South County Classical Ballet alongside fellow finalist Katee Shean. On April 30, 2013, Boss and Allison Holker performed on Dancing with the Stars dancing to “Crystallize” by Lindsey Stirling.
From April 1, 2014, Boss started appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show as a guest DJ. In October 2014, he shared that he had been cast in the movie Magic Mike XXL. By August 17, 2020, he had become a co-executive producer on Ellen DeGeneres‘s daytime talk show.
Boss was cast as Marcel X in the superhero movie Perfectus and had a significant role in the film “Ushers”. He was also a member of the dance groups Breed OCLA and Chill Factor Crew.
Boss tried out for “So You Think You Can Dance” back in 2007 but he didn’t make it into the Top 20 that season. However, he didn’t give up. He auditioned again in 2008 for Season 4 and this time he made it! He came in second place right behind another great dancer named Joshua Allen.
During Season 4 Boss danced a beautiful routine with Katee Shean. The dance was so good that it got nominated for an Emmy award! In Season 5 he performed the same dance again with Katee Shean.
Boss kept coming back to the show as an “All-Star” in later seasons. He performed some amazing routines like one where he danced hip-hop with a ballet dancer named Alex Wong. Even Ellen DeGeneres loved it and danced it on her show!
In Season 12, Boss was the captain of “Team Street.” And in 2022 he became a permanent judge on the show.
Outside of the show Boss and his wife Allison Holker had their clothing line called “DSG x tWitch + Allison Collection.” You could buy their cool athletic clothes at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings is a TV show that follows couples as they have weddings with Disney themes. You can watch it on Disney’s Freeform channel or Disney+. It takes you behind the scenes of weddings and engagements that happen at different Disney places like Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and Aulani in Hawaii.
The series first started with seven episodes in the summer of 2018. It was hosted by Boss and Allison Holker. Then, there was a special episode called “Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings: Holiday Magic” that aired during Freeform’s “25 Days of Christmas” in December 2017.
Season 2 of the show premiered on Disney+ on February 14, 2020.

On December 10, 2013, Boss, from the TV show ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ and his fellow dancer Allison Holker got married at Nigel Lythgoe’s Villa San Juliette Vineyard and Winery in Paso Robles, California. He also became the legal parent of Holker’s daughter. They had a son in March 2016 and a daughter in November 2019.
Death
On December 13, 2022, Boss was found dead in Encino, California. The authorities said he took his own life by shooting himself in the head. He was only 40 years old.
Boss was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
