The Belgian plug was born on March 6, 1988, in Sint-Truiden, Belgium, as Simon Luc Hildebert Mignolet. Together with his brother Wouter Mignolet, he was raised by his father Stefan Mignolet, who raised the boys all by himself. Three years later and with 90 games in his account, he moved on to the next team and signed with Liverpool FC, where he has remained as a second-choice goalkeeper. Simon Mignolet’s greatest achievements are the successes of his country, for which, as mentioned above, he has worked at all levels. In 2003 he was called up to play for the Belgian U-16 team and the following year he wore the Belgian colors for the U-17, then the U-18, and then the U-19 teams in 2005 and 2006. When he was called up for the Red Devils in 2011, he had already played for the U-20 and U-21 teams.

In the run-up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Simon Mignolet received the call to represent the country after first representing the Red Devils in the qualifying campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup as second-choice goalkeeper after Thibaut Courtois. Although he was not allowed to wear the gloves for his country in the tournament, the country beat England to win the bronze medal.

Looking at his performances as a goalkeeper so far, Simon Mignolet won the second Belgian league in 2009 and was named Belgian Goalkeeper of the Year 2010. With Sunderland, he was Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013, while with Liverpool he was UEFA Europa League runner-up in 2016 and UEFA Champions League runner-up in 2008.
