Mike Conley Jr. was born on October 11, 1987, in Fayetteville, Arkansas as Michael Alex Conley Jr. He and his three siblings – Joan, Sydney, and Jon – were born to their parents – Mike Conley Sr. and Rene Corbin Conley. He is the oldest child in the pack, and it can be said that his athleticism is genetic, since his father Mike was also an athlete (in track and field) who competed in the 1984 and 1992 Olympic Games for the United States (he won a silver medal in 1984 and gold in 1992). The Point-Guard received a basketball scholarship at Ohio State University (OSU) in 2006. In his first year, his 441 points and 238 assists (averaging 6.1 per game) were enough to help his college basketball team, referred to as “The Buckeyes”, reach the Big Ten Conference Championship and, after an 84-75 defeat to Florida, also finish second in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCA) tournament. For personal reasons, however, Conley was elected to the All-Big Ten First Team.

After his success in his first year of college with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Conley decided to participate in the 2007 NBA Draft instead of appearing in the second year. His father supported his decision and represented him (and his friend Greg Oden) as their agent.
