Frankie’s path to art began very early. Records show that he was discovered when he was only eight years old, during a local production of a Christmas carol in Raleigh, North Carolina. Soon after his parents divorced, he moved with his mother to Burbank, California. He appeared in several commercials and finally made his film debut in 1997 in the television movie To Dance With Olivia. In the same year, he starred in the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation of What the Deaf Man Heard. Frank Muniz played a small role in the 1999 film “Lost & Found”, paving the way for his breakout role in “Malcolm in the Middle”.

Malcolm in the Middle premiered on January 9, 2000, at Fox and was an instant hit. The first episode was seen by 23 million viewers, the second episode by 26 million. The success of the series earned Frank great admiration, and he also received an Emmy nomination in 2001 and was awarded the Hollywood Reporter Young Star Award for his work on the series. Over the course of his career, Muniz has made guest appearances on a handful of other series and has been rewarded with numerous nominations for various awards.

In the film, he played his first leading role as Willie Morris in My Dog Skip (2000). He achieved further commercial success in 2002 with the release of Big Fat Liar, in which he appeared with his teenage actress-colleague Amanda Bynes as two students seeking revenge on a sleazy film producer played by icon Paul Giamatti. Muniz’s next commercially successful project was his title role in the film Agent Cody Banks and its sequel Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London. He noted, however, that the films were the point in his career when he decided it was time to make the transition from a child actor.

After Malcolm in the Middle had finished his run on May 14, 2006, Muniz expressed his wish to leave the traditional Hollywood film roles behind. He took a break from acting to pursue a career as a race car driver. Muniz’s longstanding interest in motor racing did not abate until he did something about it. Although he took part in several celebrity races from 2001 to 2006, he had a never-ending interest in being more competitive.

In 2007 he moved up to the more competitive Champ Car Atlantic Series, where he competed in 12 races throughout the season. His best result of the season was ninth place, and he earned a total of 41 points and $17,000 in prize money over the course of the season.

Muniz is also interested in music, which inspired him to join You Hang Up as a drummer. In 2012 he left the band to join Kingsfoil, another band based in York, Pennsylvania. A few years later (2017) he announced that he was the manager of the York-based band Astro Lasso.

Muniz is also a sports fanatic. He is an avid fan of the Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Clippers.
