Famke Janssen is a Hollywood actress and filmmaker of Dutch origin. She began working as a model in the 1980s and finally switched to acting in the early 1990s. Her long Hollywood career is filled with several acting lectures on both the small and the big screen. Janssen’s most remarkable achievement to date is her portrayal of the character Jean Grey/Phönix in the highly successful X-Men film series.

Famke Beumer Janssen was born on 5 November 1964 in Amstelveen, the Netherlands. Besides her native Dutch, she speaks English and French with a little German. Famke grew up together with 2 sisters, Antoinette and Marjolein. Information about her early education is not available, but it is known that she graduated from the University of Amsterdam, where she obtained a degree in Economics. After moving to the USA she also studied at Columbia University.

Famke Janssen moved to the United States in 1984 when she started her career as a fashion model. She was signed to Elite Model Management and worked with some of the biggest names in the fashion world. Famke Janssen stopped modeling in the early ’90s, after which she quickly switched to acting.

Janssen made her acting debut in 1992 with a guest appearance in an episode of the sci-fi series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Her next leading role was opposite Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye, which earned her the status of an international movie star. Famke Janssen had a recurring role as Ava Moore in season 2 of the successful medical drama series Nip/Tuck (2004-2010). She starred in the 2007 drama Turn the River and also had a role in the hit movie Taken (2010). The talented actress made her directorial debut in 2011 in the comedy Bringing Up Bobby, in which she also acted as screenwriter and co-producer. She resumed her role in Taken in the sequels to the film Taken 2 (2012) and Taken 3 (2014) and also starred in another box office hit, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunter (2014).

Janssen played the lead role of Olivia Godfrey in the three-season Netflix horror series Hemlock Grove (2013-15) and she also starred in the drama series How to Get Away with Murder (2015-16), the crime series The Blacklist (2016), and its offshoot The Blacklist: The Redemption (2017).
