Sky Williams is a man with many hats. Apart from being a gaming phenomenon and comedian, he is also a YouTuber, a sponsored live streamer on Twitch, and a Vlogger. He gained fame as a League of Legend comedian who joked about being black and gay.

Although most of his videos are based on his personal experiences, his repertoire of videos has expanded over the years to include silly gameplay, Q&A, mock news, and more.

Who Is Sky Williams? – Bio

Sky Williams is a master in the various skills he plays. He is an online gaming personality both on the video-sharing platform YouTube and on Twitch, a stand-up comedian, and video blogger. He is known for the live streaming of his League of Legends (LoL) theme videos and swears words.

The streamer was born on January 30, 1991, as Gregory Scott Williams in San Jose, California, the youngest of three children of Sharon and Greg Williams. His siblings are Alex and Nick, and his parents separated when he was only 3 years old. After his parents divorced, his mother remarried. Although he remained with his mother, he did not get along well with his stepfather.

As a child he was very athletic and learned quickly, so he was encouraged to participate in the program for gifted and talented children. However, when he entered the sixth grade, he struggled with depression, a condition exacerbated by his classmates, many of whom bullied him. He found solace in video games and played with them a lot, especially with the Super Smash Brothers, who inspired him for this art.

Williams made an impressive presence for himself on the game platforms and as such gained a wide following. He can boast nearly 1 million subscribers on his YouTube channel and over 270,000 followers on the Twitch network.

As his gaming empire grew, Williams gradually began to engage in improvised comedy, albeit initially as a hobby. The supposed hobby eventually developed into an important part of his career, and he then began performing as a stand-up comedian. Although he started his career as a player and became a popular LoL player, he had his first taste of fame after he started comedy. Sky Williams is close friend and often works with other LoL streamers, VideoGameDunkey, Sp4zie, and Sunnysplosion.

Career Progression

Confronted with the harsh realities of life as he grew up, such as bullying and depression, Williams found solace in video games. With his increasingly sophisticated gaming skills, he began to explore other possibilities in the arena, such as competitive online video games. As a result, he became caught up in this and used his arsenal to be the best, including weekly participation in video game tournaments to hone his skills and probably find a better platform for his art. A pure fascination, you will agree. Around this time, he was also engaged in improvisational comedy, which he would later incorporate into his career.

As his playing adventures skyrocketed, his comedic inability also developed into a great strength. He became so good that he participated in his talent show in high school and eventually won the trophy by telling his own jokes. After this achievement, he came to the conclusion that he would grow up to be a comedian. And a comedian he actually became.

The player’s depression fight resurfaced after some family problems and the loss of his best friend to bacterial meningitis. While the former led to him leaving the house he shared with his family forever, the latter trumped the worsening of his depression. Williams became more active in the gaming arena by playing LoL, working as a server at Applebees for six years, and uploading his first comedy video to Reddit; a rant about other LoL players. Eventually, he began posting videos to his YouTube account.

Before uploading the video, he learned about the Flappers Comedy Club Comedy Contest while working at Applebees. He entered the contest and finished fourth out of 400 participants. Within two months of uploading the comedy video to Reddit, it exploded and made him a celebrity.

Is He Gay?

Sky Williams is an openly gay African American. Supposedly he found out about his sexuality around the time he had to endure bullying of classmates and was struggling with depression.

Initially, he was afraid to admit his identity, especially to his family, because he knew that their culture was in contrast to his own. When he sought refuge in the game world, he realized that his fellow players were not concerned about whether he was losing or being gay, but that they shared a passion for the game. After finding a place where he would be most acceptable, he continued to succeed both as a comedian and as a player.

Where is Sky Williams Now?

Williams is reportedly still active in the game circle and has not stopped expressing his views on matters that affect him. Sometime in 2014, following the alleged suicide of actor Robin Williams, he published a video about depression called “A Message to Depressed People”.

The video was based on his own experiences with depression and tried to reach people in the same situation. It was virally distributed and reached a much larger audience than its gamer subscribers and is currently the most viewed video on its channel with over 2 million views. It has also been featured in prominent online publications such as The UK Telegraph and The Huffington Post.

Its content is constantly evolving and usually revolves around his personal experiences, which are often presented in monologues or swear words. He is also active on Twitter, although he was banned in April 2018 because of behavior perceived as hateful by the network. However, his account was re-established within a month.
