Who Is Megan Phelps-Roper?

Megan Phelps-Roper, whose date of birth was given on January 31, 1986, in Topeka, Kansas, is a social media activist whose main goal is to fight hatred between religious sects and political groups, and she seemed to be doing well. Not much is known about her early education, but it is known that she attended Washburn University and joined the family business after graduation, where she worked in her family’s law firm and took on part-time jobs at Westboro Baptist Church.

Megan rose to become a prominent figure on WBC at a very early age and was considered a link between the church and the outside world as she was responsible for the church’s social media sites. Her group lived on publicity, and Megan Phelps-Roper was the ideal person to achieve this, as her outspoken nature in social media, where she discussed her beliefs, made her popular with many followers. She also appeared with her family on the Howard Stern Show to further promote the group’s ideology.

Her Twitter Experience

Megan Phelps-Roger, who was the spokesperson for her church, enjoyed her chats on Twitter, where she freely shared her views and addressed people with the intention of telling them the truth, which is not sugar-coated in the WBC style. Megan’s life took a turn, however, when she deliberately started chatting with the founder of the blog Jewlicious, David Abitbol, in the hope of sharing her views as usual. Since it was in the nature of WBC members to hate Jews, Megan did not hide this fact from David. At first, David was said to have reacted harshly to Megan, but over time his tactics changed and he decided to adopt a calmer attitude.

David asked Megan numerous questions about the Bible to which she had answers or which she would seek from her family members, especially her mother, but one question she could not answer was about the death penalty for homosexuals. Megan realized then that if you are immediately condemned for sinning, there is no room for repentance or forgiveness, and God would definitely give anyone who wanted to have such an opportunity the opportunity to change so that he could condemn the whole world.

In 2012, Megan, who had had many doubts about her extremely radical faith, shocked everyone when she announced her withdrawal from the church. This led to a major disagreement with her family, who decided to break all ties with the young lady and her sister Grace, who also went with her; the two were denied.

Megan Phelps-Roper’s Family & The WBC

Megan is the daughter of Brent Roper and Shirley Phelps-Roper, whose father, Fred Phelps, founded the Westboro Baptist Church. As Fred Roper grew older, he handed over the leadership of the church to Shirley, who in turn delegated some important tasks to her beloved daughter Megan, who did not hesitate to handle such tasks brilliantly, since she had already grown up and taught the teachings of the sect at the tender age of 3.

As she grew with the fulfillment of her duties, the hate ideology preached by the WBC made a strong impression on Megan, especially regarding sin and how people were punished by God for their deeds. The WBC completely abhorred the gay movement and they believe they are the only ones who interpret the Bible correctly. For WBC supporters, God is not the eternally loving, ever forgiving Creator preached by many religious groups, especially Christians, but they see Him as one who unleashes His wrath on all sinners. They also believe that natural disasters like tornadoes and the like are the consequences that America has to bear for tolerating homosexuality.

Before leaving the community, Megan was instrumental in spreading her message through social media platforms such as Twitter, where she had more than 7,000 followers. In addition, she was often on Afentra’s Big Fat Morning Buzz, a popular Kansas City show. She was also at the forefront of their rallies when her favorite posters were read: “No peace for the wicked” and “God hates your idols.

Prior to her departure, Megan Phelps-Roger was the backbone of the Church and contributed significantly to the massive growth of its members. She worked harder to spread the word than anyone else since the Church was founded. Her mother once said in an interview that Megan was her “right hand”; someone on whom she could rely on every task. Shirley was deeply disappointed when her daughter left the WBC, and Megan even revealed that she had told her mother that she could return anytime she wanted to, but that had not been the case for over five years.

Is The Former WBC Member Married?

Megan Phelps-Roper is happily married to Fjeelland, a man she met on Twitter and with whom she has developed a relationship. The couple met in person after she left WBC and their wedding took place on August 15, 2016.
