Marcel Young’s Birth; His Mother Didn’t Know She Was Pregnant With Him For Six Weeks

Marcel Young, the son of Dr. Dre and Michel’le, was born on 6 February 1991 in Los Angeles, California. His grandparents and Dre’s parents were Theodore and Verna Jang. Theodore owned an amateur R&B group. On his mother’s side, Jang is of Louisiana Creole descent.

Michel’le found out about her pregnancy with Marcel quite late. She only found out about him after six weeks of pregnancy. Michel’le was on the Hammer tour at the time and still had two months to go.

She had to come home, have the baby and finish a few more concerts. Toussaint eventually became a stay-at-home mum.

She says she does not recommend having a baby if she wants to be in this business. A new mum explains that a baby can easily take a year and a half.

Marcel Young Siblings: One Passed Away From A Drug Overdose 

Marcel Young is R&B singer Michel’le first-born child, while he is Dr. Dre’s fourth. Besides Marcel, the CEO of Beats Electronics has three sons and three daughters.

Marcel’s mother, Michel’le, is also the mother of another child, a daughter from her marriage to Suge Knight.

Yang’s half-sister from his mother’s union with Suge, Bailei Knight, was born on 28 November 2002. Michele and Suge welcomed her after three years of marriage. In an interview with Dre. Dre’s ex-wife explained that Marcel has a great relationship with his younger sister.

In addition, Marcel has six other half-siblings from his father’s relationships with several women. His half-brothers are Curtis Young, Trice Young, and André Young Jr. The latter died of a heroin overdose in 2009. Marcel has one other half-sister: Truly Young, La Tanya Danielle Young, and Tyra Young.

Marcel Young’s Mother, Michel’le Toussant’s Struggles

His mother, Michelle Tousant, grew up in a household that lived paycheck to paycheck, which forced her to leave South Central Los Angeles. She went to school 30 miles from her home in the relatively affluent Woodlands Hills neighborhood. The integration of the Los Angeles Unified School District into her mother’s life had significant and lasting consequences.

Toussant, now in her 50s, is perhaps best known for her 1989 album, which went double platinum. When she was 16 in 1986, Young’s mother recorded the song “Turn Off the Lights” for World Class Wreckin’ Cru, Dr. Dre’s R&B group with DJ Yella.

Toussaint used to take three buses to get to work. She was smart, but she had no knowledge of the inner workings of the music industry, and she never received a cent from the song royalties. Dre’s ex-wife revealed that she wore the same pair of jeans three times a week. Her mother had too many children and found it difficult to provide for them.

His Parents Were In A Relationship For Six Years

Dre and Toussaint met at Ruthless Records in the late 1980s.

Months after the release of Turn Off the Lights (1987), Toussaint and Dre started dating. However, the former never considered herself more than Dre’s girlfriend until Eazy-E approached her to sign with Ruthless Records. Dre produced her debut album, which included the single “No More Lies”.

With Dr. Dre, the godfather of the American hip-hop industry, there were times when Toussaint’s life was like something out of a dream. At one point, his father surprised Young with a house he had bought for the two of them in Calabasas, California.

In addition to the physical abuse, Dre was also a habitual cheater. Their relationship lasted for six years.

Marcel’s Father Was Very Abusive Towards His Mother

In 1991, Young’s father attacked her in a Los Angeles nightclub. A Gawker journalist reported that at the time, Toews thought Dre was going to kill her. The rapper did not admit the charges, and Young’s parents settled out of court for a civil suit.

In an interview with Vlad TV, Toussaint said she was glad she was not in the film. The mother of the virgin added that from the beginning she was just a silent friend who was beaten up and made to sit down and keep quiet.

Unfortunately, it was only when Toussaint came out of South Central that she realized that domestic violence was not normal and that she had done nothing to deserve it. She also never called the police on Dre. Marcela’s mother said she kept quiet because she didn’t know any difference and thought it was an expression of love.

In an interview with New York radio station Power 105, Toussaint revealed that Dre had hit her repeatedly with a closed fist and that she had black eyes in at least five incidents. She said that he broke her nose and even broke a rib.

Toussaint further revealed that Dre, like many other men who commit intimate partner violence, isolated her from her friends, especially if they were male.

Dre Even Shot Marcel’s Mother

In an interview with VLAD TV, Michelle’le also told of an occasion when Dr. Dre shot at her.

She recalled that they had just been partying and then they had an argument, he went and got a gun and she had just managed to break through the bathroom door. Toussaint said that Marcel’s father shot at her and missed by only a few centimeters.

Michel’le then left a bullet in the hole. She explained how it was in the door and then shot through the edge of the bathroom wall and she left it there for a moment so that he could see it.

Toussaint said that after this incident he never tried to shoot her again. But the beatings continued.

Marcel Young’s Mother, Michel’le’s Second Husband Was Also Abusive

Although Marcel’s mother managed to get rid of Dre, physical abuse was destined to find him again, only this time the perpetrator was not the Grammy Award winner.

Toussaint claimed that Death Row Records founder Suge only hit her once. He then promised not to attack her again because “she was too small”.

The couple was together for eight years, six of which Suge spent in prison. The record producer is currently back in prison on an attempted murder charge from 2015.

What Is Marcel Young Doing Now?

Marcel is apparently quite evasive, and he doesn’t run after any limelight either. Apart from his appearance in Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le, Jang has not appeared in the media.

To make matters even more mysterious, he’s not that dominant on social media either.

It would not be wrong to say that Jang was born rich, given his father’s considerable wealth. Sources estimate that Dr. Dre’s net worth in 2021 is around 800 million dollars, which puts him in the top five of the third richest rappers in the world.

Dre amassed around $52 million by selling part of his Aftermath Entertainment to Interscope Records and producing the hit Family Affair (2001), performed by Mary J. Blige.

In 2001, Rolling Stone magazine named him the second highest-earning artist of the year.

Dr. Dre ranked 44th in 2004, earning US$11.4 million. This came primarily from production royalties on projects such as the G-Unit and D12 albums and the single Rich Friend by singer Gwen Stefani and rapper Eva.
