Carrie attended Checotah High School, where she graduated as a class president, and then went to Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication. For the first time, she stepped into the limelight as a contestant in the fourth season of the Simon Fuller – American Idol singing competition. In May 2005, she won the competition and received a record deal worth about one million dollars and a Ford Mustang, among other things.
Her first single “Inside Your Heaven” smashed several records on her debut at number 1 of the Billboard Hot 100. With this song, she was the first country musician to debut in the first place of the Billboard Hot 100.
