Lang was born on July 11, 1952, in New York City as the youngest of 3 children into a very wealthy family. His father, Eugene Lang, was an entrepreneur and philanthropist who founded the REFAC Technology Development Corporation. His mother, Theresa Volmer, is of German and Irish descent.
