Royce D. Freeman was born on February 24, 1996, in the Imperial City of California. He is one of the two sons of Roy and Sheila Freeman, he grew up together with his brother Robert Freeman. He belongs to an African-American ethnic group and has American citizenship. Freeman developed a keen interest in football at a very young age and attended Imperial High School in Imperial County, California.

Career Stats

During high school, Freeman played a running back position for the Imperial Tigers. In his freshman year, he scored 225 yards with 26 carries and a touchdown. The following year he ran 2,075 yards with 162 carries and 35 touchdowns. He broke the Tigers record and led on career points, fast yards, and fast touchdowns. Scout.com named him a five-star recruit and in 2014 Scout.com named him the nation’s eighth-best running back.

After graduating, Freeman enrolled at the University of Oregon, where he continued his college career in 2014. He was the highest-rated player in his class, competing with Thomas Tyner and Byron Marshall for the starting jersey. Eventually, all three were named co-starters for the running back spot on the Oregon team. With his weight advantage, Freeman established himself as the power back, leading the Ducks to victory in the Rose Bowl. He ended his rookie season with 18 touchdowns, 252 Carries with 1365 stormy yards. At the end of the season, Freeman won the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year Award and was entered into the Pac-12 All-Conference 2.

In his second season, he doubled his efforts and was named the first team in the All-Pac-12 award. He finished the season with a record 17 points, 1,836 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and 26 receptions with 348 receiving yards. In the 2016 season, Freeman struggled throughout the season and failed to break the record of 1,000 yards, but instead scored 945 yards with 9 points. He had a knee injury that affected his performance this season. In the 2017 season, Freeman played 12 games in which he scored 16 touchdowns with 1,475 stormy yards. After a successful season, he was listed among the players eligible for the 2018 NFL draft.
