Robert Lee Griffin III was born in Japan on February 12, 1990. His mother Jacqueline (née Ross) and father Robert Jr. both served in the United States Army and were stationed at the United States military base in Okinawa, Japan. Upon their return to the United States, the family moved around several military bases before finally settling in Copperas Cove, Texas.

During his high school years at Copperas Cove High School, Robert Griffin was a three-sport athlete, playing basketball, soccer, and athletics. The multitalented boy excelled in soccer and athletics and was the toast of many college recruiters. Griffin eventually chose Baylor University and joined the school in 2008. Both on and off the field, he continued to perform at his best, winning the Big 12 Conference Offensive Freshman of the Year award. As predicted by many observers, Robert Griffin III was selected by the Washington Redskins in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft as the second overall choice. He signed a four-year contract with the club in July 2012. In his official NFL debut on September 9, Griffin scored 19 of 26 passes for 320 yards and 2 touchdowns, while he added 10 carries for 42 stormy yards in the Redskins’ 40-32 triumph over the New Orleans Saints. This epic performance earned him both the NFC Offensive Player of the Week and the NFL Rookie of the Week honor.

Robert Griffin III also made history as the first NFL rookie to jump more than 200 yards with 4 touchdowns and over 75 yards in one game, a feat he accomplished in the Redskins’ win over the Philadelphia Eagles on November 14. Although his rookie season was thwarted by injury, Griffin was still the rookie quarterback with the highest passer-by rating (102.4) and the highest touchdown to interception ratio (4:1). He was nominated to play in the 2013 Pro Bowl, which he eventually missed due to injury.

Robert Griffin III joined the Cleveland Browns on March 24, 2016, and was named the team’s starting quarterback for the 2016 season. However, he suffered a shoulder injury at the beginning of the season that put him offside for most of the season. He only started 5 games, in which he played 87 of 147 passes for 886 yards and 2 touchdowns with 3 interceptions. He also had 190 rushing yards with 2 rushing touchdowns.
