The famous US politician Newt Gingrich was one of the top Republican candidates fighting for the presidency in the 2012 presidential campaign, but unfortunately, he was not chosen to represent the Republicans. Newt, who also served as speaker of the House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999, is a man who has held several other prestigious positions, including General Chairman of American Solutions for Winning the Future, and he owns a company called the Gingrich Group, which provides communications and consulting services focused on transformational change.

A politician is indeed a man of many accomplishments, which even tabloids have given him names like “the indispensable leader”. Time Magazine named him “Man of the Year” in 1995 and also mentioned that it is leaders that make things possible, extraordinary leaders make things inevitable, and Newt was not only a leader but an extraordinary one.

Newt Gingrich Biography

Newt Gingrich was born on July 17, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pennslyvania, with full names as Newton Leroy McPherson to his mother Kathleen and father Newton Searles McPherson. His parents, who married in their teens, divorced a few days after their marriage. His mother later married Robert Gingrich, and Newt took his last name, with which he has been known ever since. On his mother’s side, he has three younger siblings named Candace, Susan, and Roberta, while on his father’s side he has a stepsister and stepbrother named Randy McPherson.

He graduated from Baker High School in Columbus, Georgia in 1961, then enrolled at Emory University, Atlanta, where he earned a B.A. in history. He then completed his postgraduate studies at Tulane University, where he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in European History. After completing his doctorate, he accepted a position at West Georgia College as an assistant professor in the Department of History but later moved to the Department of Geography, where he worked until 1978 when he was elected to Congress.

His Political Career

In 1974 Newt made his first attempt to win a seat in the House of Representatives but lost to the Democratic candidate, Jack Flynt, and although he tried again in 1976 to beat Jack Flynt, the campaign was also in vain. He remained in politics, however, and became quite popular over the years, and in 1994 Newt Gingrich became Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives because he had the majority of Republican voters.

His political career, however, was marked by some setbacks, as he was blamed for many conflicts and unfavorable actions of the government, due to his never-ending problems with President Clinton regarding federal money matters. The rest of his term as House Speaker was chaotic as he faced a series of investigations and was even fined on one occasion for misrepresentation of facts.

Although he was given the chance to become speaker again in 1997, Newt Gingrich did not have an easy time in the political arena, as his conspiracy to remove President Clinton from office caused a backlash even from his own party and he resigned from office in 1998. After he resigned, Newt did not play a major role in American politics for several years, during which time he worked as a consultant and TV personality and founded American Solutions for Winning the Future. When the rumor spread that he would run for the presidency in 2011, he lost his job at Fox.
Although it didn’t seem possible that he could go anywhere with his campaign, Newt Gingrich did his best, but his campaign came to a halt when it was suspended in early May.

Other Works

After his failed attempt to become president, Newt Gingrich returned to focus on his media career, and in September 2013 he was co-host of the CNN show Crossfire, which was discontinued the following year. However, Newt Gingrich continued to work with CNN until his return to Fox News in 2015.

It is also worth noting that Newt Gingrich is a prolific writer who has written books such as Lessons Learned the Hard Way, Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America, Rediscovering God in America, Saving America: Stopping Obama’s Secular Socialist Machinery, and Understanding the Trump Card.

Newt Gingrich Family Life: Wife

The politician has it on record that he was married 3 times. His first marriage was in 1962 when he entered into a marriage with Jacqueline May Battley, his high school teacher at the time. Newt was 19 years old, while she was 26 at that time. The couple had two daughters named Kathy Gingrich Lubber and Jackie Gingrich Cushman.

He began an affair with Marianne Ginther while married to his first wife, and was married to his mistress barely 6 months after his divorce in 1981. However, like the first affair, Newt also had an affair while married to Marianne, and he is said to have filed for divorce from her in 1999, shortly after it was discovered that she suffered from multiple sclerosis. Although Marianne did not want a divorce, she had no other choice because Newt was determined to get rid of her and start his life with his newfound younger love, Callista Bisek.

How Much Is He Worth?

The net value of this politician, who was the 50th Speaker of the US House of Representatives, is controversial since no specific amount is unanimously agreed upon by the reporters. While in 2006 he was worth $2.4 million, this amount jumped to $6.4 million in 2010. At present, some pages report a net worth of $9 million, while others report a staggering $126 million.

Whatever the actual amount, his source of income comes not only from politics, as he owns several companies, but also from the fact that he is an accomplished author. Newt Gingrich is also known for having a car collection of first-class brands, investments in many organizations, and real estate that have increased his net worth over the years.
