The American-born actress Marcia Cross has done some film auditions but is now known for her extensive work on the small screen. Her acting career dates back to the 1980s, but she became well known to television audiences through her role as Dr. Kimberly Shaw in the successful 1990s series Melrose Place. Marcia Anne Cross was born on March 25, 1962, in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Her mother Janet worked as a school teacher, and her father Mark Cross earned his living as a personnel manager. She has 2 siblings; an older sister Susan and a younger sister named Ellen. She is of English and Irish descent and was raised Roman Catholic. Cross completed her high school education at Marlborough High School, graduating in 1980. After high school, she received a half scholarship to study acting at the Juilliard School in New York City, which she completed in 1984. She also earned a master’s degree in psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles.

Cross made her screen debut in the daytime series The Edge of Night (1984), followed by a role in another soap opera Another World (1986). In addition to several guest roles, she also played the leading role of Kate Sanders in the soap opera One Life to Live (1986-87). She made her feature film debut in the thriller film Bad Influence (1990) alongside Rob Lowe, and afterward, she received a recurring role in the soap opera Knots Landing (1991-92).

Marcia Cross became well known to television audiences through her role as Dr. Kimberly Shaw in the hit series Melrose Place (1992-97) from the 1990s. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, the talented actress took on several guest roles in various television series and also appeared in several telefilms. Later she received a regular role as Dr. Linda Abbott in the drama series Everwood (2003-04).

Cross reached an important milestone in 2004 when she was given the career-defining role of Bree Van de Kamp, one of the main characters in the successful comedy-drama series Desperate Housewives (2004-12). Cross also had a recurring role in the three-season thriller series Quantico (2015-2018).

While Marcia Cross has established herself as the all-around queen of the small screen, she has also recently made a number of films, including the comedy film Just Peck (2009) and Famke Janssen’s directing debut Bringing Up Bobby (2011). Marcia Cross has been married to stockbroker Tom Mahoney for over a decade. After six months together, the couple sealed the covenant on June 24, 2006, at San Gabriel’s Church of Our Saviour Episcopal in Pasadena, California. After the ceremony, they invited their guests to a lavish reception at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Pasadena.

Shortly after her marriage in 2006, she underwent in vitro fertilization, and on February 20, 2007, she welcomed fraternal twin daughters, Eden Mahoney and Savannah Mahoney. Cross and her husband Tom have remained an ideal couple, and their union has been equally blissful ever since. According to the actress, their marriage brought much happiness and joy into their lives.

Marcia Cross’s husband Tom Mahoney was diagnosed with cancer in early 2009. Fortunately, he overcame the disease after a year of intensive chemotherapy. The family was once again afraid of cancer a few years later when Cross himself was diagnosed with anal cancer. But just like in the case of her husband, the actress managed to overcome the disease.
