Matthew Scott Porter was born on July 14, 1979, in Omaha, Nebraska, United States of America. He was raised by his parents together with his two siblings, Ariana Porter and Brendan Porter. As a child, Porter was always interested in sports, so it was only natural that he became a member of the soccer team during his time at Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Florida.

Before graduating high school in 1997, he was a wide receiver on his team. He then studied at the University of Central Florida, where he co-founded a cappella singing group called 4:2: Five and Mosaic. Not only did his student life end with fun and partying, but Porter also took jobs like babysitting and had no time to party.

Scott Porter has been an active actor since 2004 when he played the character of Matthew in the off-Broadway hit Altar Boyz. Before joining the cast of Friday Night Lights in 2006, he starred in episodes of three television series and operas, including Ugly Betty, As the World Turns, and The Bedford Diaries.
