Loyle Carner is a British rapper/hip hop artist and actress. His very first studio album, Yesterday’s Gone, which he released in 2017, was nominated for the Mercury Prize 2017 aka the Brit Awards. Although he lost out, Carner continued to fire and received another nomination at the 2018 Brit Awards for the British Breakthrough Act and the British Male Solo Artist.

At the end of his highly successful debut EP, he was nominated for the Longlist BBC Sound of 2016. Carner had an extensive British-Irish tour at the end of 2017, which saw him perform at sold-out shows in Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol, and London. Loyle Carner was born on 6 October 1994 in Lambeth, central London. His birth name is Benjamin Gerard Coyle-Larner, the stage name “Loyle Carner” was derived from a misconstruction of his two-part surname Coyle-Larner.

He began his secondary education at Whitgift School, an independent school for all boys in South Croydon. He then attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon (Alma Mater of Amy Winehouse and Adele) to earn a degree. His education was discontinued in 2014 due to the death of his beloved stepfather. His stepfather had suffered fatal complications of epilepsy. This prompted Carner to move back home to support his family.

In 2008, young Loyle Carner received his first film role in the epic adventure film 10,000 BC by Warner Bros. While his acting career has only a handful of appearances, Carner’s music career has shot all the cylinders.

He was first noticed on the British music scene when he was introduced by Rejjie Snow in 1992 on his 1992 title, which was released in 2013. A year later, Loyle Carner released his debut EP entitled A Little Late. All songs on this debut EP were produced except for one by Conner’s best friend Rebel Kleff. A Little Late was not only well-received but also caused a stir in the British hip-hop scene.

Loyle Carner was on support tours with Kate Tempest, Joey Bada$$, and Atmosphere. For the rapper from South London, a dream came true when he was allowed to support one of his greatest idols, Nas, on the stage of the Bristol O2 Academy in August 2016. Carner returned to the O2 Academy Brixton in 2017 to promote his debut album with a headlining show.

Loyle Carner is currently 23 years old. Having started his music career with such a brilliant touch, he is certainly one to watch out for on the international music scene.

Carner’s biological father, with whom he had very little contact, comes from Guyana, a sovereign state on the South American mainland. He was raised by his mother Jean and his stepfather Nicholas Stevens in South Croydon, South London. Carner’s mother is a special education teacher. He has a stepbrother and sister, a younger brother named Ryan.

Carner sent a sexist fan away from one of his performances in October 2017 because he had made an insulting remark to one of the background singers. The sexist fan had allegedly shouted at the singer: “They have big t*ts”, which caused Carner to interrupt the concert and put him in his place!

Carner was diagnosed at a young age with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and dyslexia.

He founded a cooking school called “Chilli Con Carner cooking school” for children with ADHD. As one who suffered from ADHD during his childhood, Loyle Carner discovered that cooking was therapeutic for him. He decided to establish a cooking school as a social enterprise to help young children with ADHD.

Loyle Carner dreams of opening a restaurant. According to the talented rapper, he plans to attend a cooking school one day and even open his restaurant if his music career falters.
