The nickname “El Pipita” goes back to his father, who was nicknamed “Pipa” and played for Boca Juniors and River Plate in Argentina and later Stade Brestois 29 in France during his time. El Pipita, who plays as a striker for Juventus in Serie A, was born in Brest (France) on 10 December 1987 to Nancy Zacarias Higuain (mother) and Jorge Higuain (father). His father was of Basque descent and so is he. Since he was born in France, he had French citizenship but returned to Argentina at the age of 10 months, which makes him an Argentine citizen. He applied for his Argentine passport and received it in 2007 after his impressive club records in 2006 led France and Argentina to invite the young player to play for them.
