David Wright is an American-born professional baseball player who plays the third baseman for the New York Mets. He joined the Mets in the 2001 MLB draft and three years later he made his MLB debut on July 21, 2004. Wright received both the Gold Glove Award and the Silver Slugger Award for two consecutive seasons (2007 and 2008). He was named to 7 MLB All-Star teams and was named 4th captain of the New York Mets in March 2013.

David Allen Wright was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on December 20, 1982, the son of Elisa and Rhon Wright. He grew up together with 4 younger siblings. He was selected by the New York Mets in the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft supplemental round. He spent the first three years with the Mets’ Minor League teams before being called up to the Major League in July 2004.

David Wright made his MLB debut on 21 July 2004 as the Mets’ starting third baseman against the Montreal Expos, and since then he has remained a regular starting third baseman for the New York Mets. On March 21, 2013, David Wright was named 4th captain of the New York Mets. He became the longest player to spend his entire career with a team.

In 2004, David Wright’s first full season in the Major League, he played 69 games and beat .293 with 14 home runs and 40 RBIs in 69 missions. In 2005, he earned more playing time by playing in 160 games. He ended the season with a batting average of .306, 27 home runs, 102 RBIs, 99 scored runs, and 17 stolen bases. He led the entire Mets team in all numbers except for home runs, where he finished second with Cliff Floyd’s 34.

Wright earned his first All-Star appearance at the 2006 MLB All-Star Game as a starting third baseman for the National League. He also set a new Mets record for the highest number of RBIs before the All-Star break, having collected 74 RBIs before the break. The Mets won the National League East title and qualified for their first playoffs since 2000. In the 2007 season, Wright ended the season with a batting average of 0.325, 30 home runs, 107 RBIs, and 34 stolen bases. He received the 2007 Rawlings Gold Glove Award and the Silver Slugger Award at third base. Wright retained both awards for the 2008 season and finished the season with a batting average of 0.302 with 33 home runs and 124 RBI.

However, he earned his fourth consecutive All-Star appearance as the starting third baseman for NL. He was also named All-Star in the 2010 Major League Baseball Game. In the 2011 season, Wright hit .254, 14 home runs, 61 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases in 102 games. However, he was not named in the 2011 All-Star Game. In the 2014 season, David Wright’s performance dropped to a career-low due to a shoulder injury, so he did not make it to the 2014 All-Star Game. David Wright is married to the model Molly Beers. The two are said to have met at the 2006 World Baseball Classic and have remained inseparable ever since. After several years together, Wright announced their engagement in January 2013. On December 26, 2013, the couple sealed the marriage in a ceremony in La Jolla, California.

In July 2016, David Wright and his wife welcomed their first child, a daughter named Olivia Shea. In May 2018, the couple welcomed their second daughter, Madison.
