Daniel Norris was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the second round (74th overall) of the MLB Draft 2011. After a successful side trip to the Minor League, he was called upon September 1st, 2014 as part of this month’s player list expansion. His first MLB match, which he played against the Boston Red Sox, was played on September 5th. Today he plays as a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers.
The pitching phenomenon began the following year, earning him a string of titles in the first month of 2015 and beyond. On January 21, he was named the MLB’s third-best LHP candidate in baseball, number 1 Blue Jays candidate, number 3 left-handed pitcher in baseball, and 17 best candidates overall in 2015.

After remarkable games with the Blue Jays, Norris was transferred to the Detroit Tigers in July 2015 alongside Matt Boyd and Jairo Labourt in exchange for David Price. After his debut with the Tigers on August 2, he became the team’s first pitcher to score a home run on the first record appearance of his career. With his outstanding performances, even though he ended up on the disabled list with injuries for most seasons, Daniel Norris has proven his form every time he returns.
Following his surgery in May, he is currently on the 60-day disabled list.
The baseball pitcher was born Daniel David Norris on April 25, 1993, in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he grew up with his two older sisters, Amanda Haywood and Melanie Norris. His parents, David Norris and Sandra Norris grew up in Johnson City, Tennessee. The family has owned a bicycle shop in their hometown for over eight decades. Although his family had no sports history, he played three sports in high school, including baseball, and learned all the fields until his final year in high school. He graduated from Science Hill High School.
Baseball America ranked him as the 91st most promising player in baseball before the 2012 season and would name him the first All-Stars Team of the Year in 2014. Norris was ranked as the number 3 high school player in the country, and although he received a scholarship to Clemson University, he chose to go pro and made it to the big leagues with the 2011 draft.
Although he has been off his feet a number of times during his career due to injuries and surgery common to most athletes, the last time in May 2018 in the left groin and pelvic region, a brief panic attack with thyroid cancer, which he was diagnosed with in October 2015 but is currently unaffected, Norris has risen further than before the downturn, still with countless potentials in his left arm and future. He hits and throws with his left hand.
He’s a creative and outdoor enthusiast who enjoys nothing more than the time he spends in the MLB during the off-season enjoying the wonders of nature from the comforts of his Volkswagen van, a microbus he called Shaggy. Daniel claims that these trips and adventures help keep him humble and help him keep things in perspective.
He is referred to as the Transporter Man but has claimed that despite his adventurousness and other interests, baseball remains what he loves above all else.
