Caleb Murray is the son of actor Bill Murray, best known for Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, The National Lampoon Radio Hour (1973-1974), and others.

Although the veteran comedian has six sons, none of them has the fame of their father. This is probably because Bill’s sons all work in different professions. Or at least their jobs don’t really require them to appear on camera.

Caleb Murray’s Parental Heritage; He Is Mostly Of Irish Ancestry

Caleb, Bill’s third son, and first child by his second wife, Jennifer Butler, was born on 11 January 1993.

His paternal grandparents, Lucille Mary (Collins) and Edward Joseph Murray II were of Irish descent and Catholic. His uncle, Bill’s brother, the actor Brian Doyle-Murray, starred with Bill in Caddyshack and Ghostbusters, among others.

Caleb’s other uncles, John, and Joel Murray are also actors. His aunt is Bill’s sister, Nancy Murray, an Adrian Dominican nun. She tours the United States with a one-woman program, playing the character of Saint Catherine of Siena. Caleb’s paternal great-grandfather was Edward Joseph Murray, who was born in Illinois; his ancestors were from County Carlow in Ireland.

Immediately after Caleb and his brothers were born, his parents, Jennifer Butler and the Groundhog Day star moved to Charleston, South Carolina – Butler’s choice, but a town that Bill began to appreciate.

Caleb Murray’s Parents Were Together For 11 Years 

His parents, Bill and Jennifer Butler, a costume designer, married in 1997.

Their friendship lasted until 2008, but on 12 May 2008 Butler filed for divorce. The divorce ended with Jennifer receiving two houses and USD 7 million (essentially the terms of their prenuptial agreement).

Caleb’s mother also received custody of their four sons, and his father received visitation rights. Before their divorce, they became the parents of four sons – Caleb, Jackson, Cooper, and Lincoln.

His Siblings; Are Homer And Luke Murray Caleb’s Brothers? 

Two years after Caleb was born, Bill and Jennifer had their second son, Jackson, in 1995.

A third son, Cooper, was born in 1997, and Caleb’s youngest brother, Lincoln, in 2001. In addition to his four biological siblings, Caleb also has two half-brothers, born during his father Bill’s first marriage to Margaret Kelly.

Caleb’s first half-brother is Homer Murray, who owns a restaurant in Brooklyn. The other is Luke Murray. He is an assistant basketball coach with UConn Athletics and former Director of Basketball Operations at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut from 2007 to 2008.

Luke and Homer’s father, Bill, married their mother, Margaret Kelly, on Super Bowl Sunday in Las Vegas on January 25, 1981. Their marriage ended in 1996 after a first marital affair with Caleb’s mother, Jennifer Butler.

Caleb Murray Was Arrested During Black Lives Matter Protest

Already in June 2020, the eldest son of the Ghostbusters actor and his second wife were brought before the law during Black Lives Matter protests in Massachusetts. He was living in Chilmark, Massachusetts at the time and peacefully attended a rally in the town of Willard Haven.

Caleb was arrested by the police for “spitting at a police officer and biting and threatening arson” during the Martha’s Vineyard civil unrest. Officials also said he threw a rock through a car window at the car of Eric Woods, a 66-year-old man. Woods had previously used a racial slur and then assaulted a black teenager.

After his abusive words, the protesters could not refrain from rioting. It is believed that Caleb became the ultimate focus of the protest.

After his arrest, Caleb reportedly “spat on and bit a police officer, attacked a deputy sheriff, and threatened arson. The court later dropped the charge of destruction of property in relation to the car.

However, Murray was still charged with three counts of assaulting a police officer and causing bodily harm. He had been involved in a conflict with police officers who were responding to another incident during a demonstration on Martha’s Vineyard.

According to police reports at the time, after his arrest Murray became uncooperative, biting and spitting at a police officer while in custody and later using a piece of his cell to cut himself and police officers. Caleb also allegedly threatened to burn down buildings as soon as he came out of prison.

Caleb Faced Numerous Legal Charges

Initially, law enforcement authorities charged Jennifer’s eldest son with six offenses. These included malicious destruction of property, threatening to commit a crime, three counts of assaulting a police officer, making terroristic threats, and inciting a riot.

The authorities later dropped the charges of making terrorist threats and malicious destruction of property, but not before the charges had been brought to court. Judge Liz Williamson, Edgartown District Court Clerk, dropped the charge of destruction of property because she found probable cause that Caleb was not responsible for the rash on Wood’s window.

Williamson explained that the truck was in the circle of protesters and its glass had already been broken. She added that Murray was already on his knees so it was impossible for him to cause vandalism or [malicious] destruction.

In the end, Caleb received only a one-year suspended sentence from the Edgartown District Court. This was after he was granted bail of $10,000 before trial.

What Does Caleb Murray Do? Is He Married? 

It is perhaps the biggest inconsistency that the child of Hollywood’s most obscure face is quite a mysterious person, apart from the fame gained during the BLM movement.

Given this, the details of how Caleb makes ends meet or what his profession entails are entirely up to conjecture and supposition. What makes this question a deep puzzle is that Caleb is conspicuously absent from platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

It is also unclear whether he has a wife or possibly a girlfriend, or whether there is any information about where he is in the romantic aspect of his life. For the time being, Caleb is most likely single and not married.
