Al Sharpton is an outspoken preacher and civil rights activist known for leading the fight against racial prejudice and injustice in the United States of America. Al Sharpton was born on 3 October 1954 as Alfred Charles Sharpton Jr. in Brooklyn New York City. Sharpton attended public schools in Queens and Brooklyn. He graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School in 1972 and was enrolled at Brooklyn College, where he was a major in contemporary politics before dropping out after two years. During his school years, he became involved in civil rights movements, held several leadership positions, and participated in several high-profile protests aimed at achieving equality between black and white Americans.
While dropping out of school, he founded his own organization, which was named the National Youth Movement. The organization’s activities helped to keep the media’s attention on the racially motivated murder of a black teenager named Michael Griffith in 1986.

As a child and a churchgoer ordained as a pastor at the age of 10, Sharpton developed his confident style of speech.
