Kurt Vogel Russell was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 17, 1951. His father, Bing Russell, was an actor, and his mother, Louise Julia (née Crone) was a dancer. He grew up with three sisters, Jill, Jamie, and Jody. He went to school at Thousand Oaks High School and was a member of the school’s baseball team.

He started as a child actor in the early 1960s, appeared in many television series, and eventually made his film debut in the 1963 Elvis Presley musical It Happened at the World’s Fair, and got a regular role in the short-lived series The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters (1963-64).
