Because of his family’s strong ties to Catholicism, his parents enrolled him at Quigley Preparatory Seminary North, a school for boys that is open only to aspiring priests. Dan Savage did not realize his family’s dreams when he studied acting at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

After graduating, Savage moved to West Berlin, where he lived for two years before returning to the United States in 1990. In 1991 he took a job as a video store manager in Madison, Wisconsin, where he met Tim Keck, the co-founder of the international satirical newspaper company The Onion. After a conversation between the two, Savage Keck suggested he put an advice column in his soon-to-be-founded Seattle newspaper, The Stranger because he felt that people always need advice. To his greatest surprise, Keck asked him to create a sample column, and when he did, he was offered the job.

This was the beginning of Dan Savage’s career as a sexual counselor columnist, which included a three-hour call-in show on radio station KCMU Seattle in 1994. In 1998, after leaving his radio show, he was hired by ABC News to write a column on their website.

During this time, Dan Savage made sure he stayed in touch with his acting roots. Under the pseudonym Keenan Hollohan, he works as a theatre director and founded the Seattle Greek Active Theatre.

Is He Gay?

Dan Savage is gay and very proud of it. The outspoken sex advice columnist turned out to be gay in 1979, at a time when gays were exposed to verbal, emotional, and even physical abuse. Since then, he has become an activist in the LGBTQ community advocating for gay rights such as same-sex marriage and also providing a platform to protect young homosexuals from committing suicide due to the abuse they experience from their peers.

Who is His Husband (Terry Miller) and Son?

Not everyone in the world will be lucky enough to meet their soul mate, and even if they do, one reason or another may mean that they will never be together. However, this cannot be said for Dan Savage, as he seems to have found the only person in the world who gives him the opportunity to be the best he can be.

He is married to underwear model Terry Miller, whom he has publicly said is the reason for his successful career, as Miller is a “stay-at-home” partner and takes good care of him. Since there was no same-sex marriage in the United States in 2005, the couple first exchanged their marriage vows in Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada), before taking renewed vows in Washington State after legalization in 2012. They were among the first 11 couples to be granted a marriage license by the state on December 9, 2012, at Seattle City Hall.

Savage and Miller subsequently gained a large following in the social media and were described as a gay power couple. Together they adopted a son named D.J., who was supposedly born in 1998. Not much is known about their now-adolescent son, except that unlike his parents, he is heterosexual and was traveling with an unidentified woman.
