Following an alleged assault on the construction site of “Cop City,” a Police and Fire training complex, Atlanta Police identified 23 individuals accused of domestic terrorism.
The Atlanta Police Department reports that all but two of those detained are from out of state. Two more come from outside the country.
The gang is suspected of leaving a nearby music festival on Sunday evening and traveling to the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center construction site “to carry out a planned assault on construction equipment and Police employees.”

According to accounts, the group dressed in black and threw commercial-grade fireworks, Molotov cocktails, massive boulders, and stones at police officers.
“Last night’s protest was not calm; instead, it was violent. Simply told, “Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr said on Monday. “We will not accept property destruction, and we will endeavor to hold people who have engaged in this illegal activity fully accountable under the law.”
“This cutting-edge Public Training Safety Center will benefit not only police officers, firefighters, and EMTs, but the entire community,” Carr said.
“We completely back and will continue to support its construction and operation, and we will not give up in the face of violent fanatics from Georgia, Maine, Oregon, and other states who seek to derail us.”

Carr described those arrested as part of a “national network, an international collection of folks organized to come to our state to destabilize a public safety training facility” on Fox News early Monday.
Despite Carr’s mention of Oregon, none of the 23 individuals charged in Sunday’s incident are from that state. Initially, authorities claimed that 35 “agitators” had been apprehended.
This was not the location to practice public safety. According to Atlanta Chief of Police Darin Schierbaum, who told reporters on the scene that the incident was about chaos and an effort to destabilize, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the FBI have joined the investigation.
Despite the fact that protests have been ongoing at the 85-acre DeKalb County site, which was purchased for a $90 million Police and Fire training complex, Schierbaum said Sunday’s event represented a “dramatic escalation” in both the amount of violence and the number of people involved in the attack.
Prior to Sunday, at least 19 people had been arrested and charged with domestic terrorism in connection with demonstrations at the “Cop City” site since December.
Six of the 19 charges were made as a result of a deadly riot in downtown Atlanta on January 21 following the death of 26-year-old environmental activist Manuel Esteban Paez Teran by the Georgia State Patrol.
