Wendy Jane Crewson was born on May 9, 1956, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She is the daughter of Robert Binnie Crewson and June Doreen (née Thomas). She has a brother named Brad Crewson, and together they decided to attend John Rennie High School in Pointe-Claire, Quebec.

Crewson fell in love with acting as a child and had her first acting experience in the 10th grade when she appeared in The Boy Friend. After graduating from high school, Crewson decided to attend Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Her cousin had graduated in 1924, at a time when women were not really going to university. Crewson said she was inspired by her cousin’s boldness and chose to go to school.

This actress made great strides in Queens. She appeared in several school productions and received the Lorne Greene Award for outstanding work in the theater. She graduated in 1977 and then moved to London where she attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.

Their marriage was blessed with two children: a daughter born in 1989, Maggie Murphy, and a son born in 1992, Jack Murphy.
