Tim Hardaway Jr. is popularly known as a professional American basketball player who currently plays for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Interestingly, he is the son of former NBA All-Star Tim Hardaway. Before playing for the major leagues, the younger Hardaway honed his skills on the Michigan Wolverine college basketball team before being named 24th in the NBA Draft in 2013.

Timothy Duane Hardaway Jr. was born on March 16, 1992, in Miami, Florida, United States of America. His parents are Yolanda Adkins Hardaway and Tim Hardaway. His mother, Yolanda, was a domestic worker, while his father, Tim, was a professional basketball player during his active years on the court. Basically, it was his father’s success as a basketball player that prompted him to pursue a career in this sport.

For his high school education, Tim was enrolled at Palmer Trinity School but was later transferred to Miami Palmetto High School. Tim started playing soccer in his freshman year before leaving the sport to focus more on basketball. Since he focused most of his energy on developing his basketball skills, he also had problems with his father, who was something like his second coach. He also had the problem of not being selected by most college basketball programs. At that time Hardaway was not in the Rivals.com Top 150 ranking, which was a problem for him. However, he was fortunate to have been contacted by the University of Michigan to join the Michigan Wolverines, where he eventually played his college basketball. He was later drafted by the New York Knicks as the 24th overall candidate in the 2013 NBA draft.

Professional Career

During the draft, Tim Hardaway Jr. entered the contract with only two guards. This draft made him and his teammate Burke the first Michigan couple to be selected in the first round since Jalen Rose and Juwan Howard in the 1994 NBA draft. The Knick later officially announced that the contract signed by Tim was worth $6 million over four years. Tim decided to wear the number 5 jersey and explained in a Twitter post that his decision was based on the fact that it was the same number his father wore as a rookie. He was then transferred to the Atlanta Hawks on June 25, 2015.

This trade was made to create the opportunity to exchange him for Jerian Grant. In his new team, he was listed as inactive for the season opener, despite the 24 average points he had collected in the last two preseason competitions. Later in the 2016-2017 season, Tim was expected to compete for the season with Kent Bazemore, Thabo Sefolosha, and Kyle Korver. He was later expected to make his debut with the team against the Boston Celtics on November 24, 2016. Tim Hardaway Jr. did well to release his very first career double in the NBA with 11 rebounds and 26 points in the game against the Orlando Magic on November 8, 2016. After missing 20 games, he returned to the Knicks on January 12, 2017.
