Talisa Soto is an American actress known as Princess Kitana in the 1995 fantasy action movie Mortal Kombat and its sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, released in 1997.

She was born Miriam Talisa Soto on 27 March 1967 in Brooklyn, New York. She is the youngest of four children born to her parents. When Talisa was very young, her family moved from Puerto Rico to Northampton, Massachusetts, where she and her three older siblings were eventually raised and educated.

Soto, who became famous as an actress, started her career first as a model who appeared in magazine issues like Elle, Mademoiselle, Vogue, Glamour. Her modeling career began at the age of 15 when she only signed up as a model with Click Model Management during the summer holidays. A few weeks after signing up with Click, Talisa got the chance to travel to Paris where she worked in a layout for Vogue. After the summer holidays, she returned to Northampton and stayed at her school until she finished high school.

She received her first film role in India in 1988 in the comedy Spike of Bensonhurst, which also featured Sasha Mitchell and Ernest Borgnine. In the same year, she played Lupe Lamora in James Bond’s film Licence to Kill.
