Taco Charlton Bio

This soccer star was born Vidauntae Charlton on November 7, 1994, as the son of his parents. His mother Tamara was put on bed rest when she was pregnant with him. During this time, the Taco Bell advertising campaign was aired with the headline “Make your way to the border” and it seemed appropriate to explain what the unborn baby was doing.

So his grandmother started calling him Taco and his mother started writing the name on all his cards. When he was born, he had a nickname that has remained to this day.

Taco was born in Colombus, Ohio, and grew up in Pickerington, also in Ohio. He has a younger sister as his only sibling. As a child, he did not love soccer so much but was a fan of the Ohio State team. The fan life was practically ingrained in him even as a child living in the area. He hardly suspected that fate would turn his life around by letting him play for a rival team. His dream, however, was to play basketball in college. He admits that in the beginning he only played soccer to please his father, but well, life happens.

In high school, Taco Charlton played basketball and was good at it. However, it was quite exhausting for him to commute between his love for basketball and his father’s love for soccer. He had to lose up to 12 pounds each spring to get in shape for basketball, and then gain a full 20-30 pounds to be fit enough for soccer – such a strain! He also set a record of 19 bags and 116 tackles.

After completing his high school education at Pickerington High School Central in Pickerington, Ohio, he went to the University of Michigan on a soccer scholarship and played college soccer. Taco had a very interesting time in Michigan, which led to him being named by the media and coaches as one of the top ten defensive players on the first team. In 2013 he appeared as a rookie in 10 games and was the defensive end of the reserve. The following year, as a sophomore, he appeared in 12 games and started in one game while picking up 3.5 bags and 19 tackles. As a junior, he picked up 5.5 sacks and 30 tackles in the 13 games in which he performed. On the senior team, Taco recorded an astonishing 38 tackles and 10 sacks, culminating in a total of 91 tackles and 19 sacks in his college football career.

On April 27, 2017, after so much anticipation, Jerry Jones of the Cowboys called and Taco’s professional football career began. He signed a $10.02 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys for a four-year contract that included a signing bonus of $5.43 million and a guaranteed $7.73 million. He picked up his first tackle in the game against the Denver Broncos, which the Cowboys unfortunately lost. As the first season is over and the second one is about to start, the fans of Taco and the Cowboys are keeping their fingers crossed for this soccer player.

His nickname seems to open up endorsement opportunities for him. These include the partnership agreements between Taco Bueno and Big Red.
