Sadly Murphy passed away on December 20, 2009, after collapsing in their bathroom. The cause was pneumonia worsened by iron-deficiency anemia and drug intoxication from medications.

Paramedics arrived but pronounced Monjack dead at 9:45 pm due to acute pneumonia and severe anemia similar to the conditions that led to his wife’s passing five months earlier in the same house.
He was laid to rest beside Murphy at Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills.

Simon, Brittany, and Sharon lived in a large 9,400-square-foot home in Hollywood Hills. Brittany bought the house from Britney Spears for $3.85 million in 2003. Tragically, Simon and Brittany both died only months apart from the same cause, leading people to wonder if toxic mold in the house played a role. Simon, who suffered from health issues like seizures, sleep apnea, and asthma, had the house tested for mold before Brittany’s death, but the results showed no mold.
The coroner said mold was not the cause of their deaths. However, Sharon, Brittany’s mother, believed mold might have played a role. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and neuropathy while living in the house. Years later, she said toxic mold found in the house “may have been what killed her.”
