Shaquille O’Neal aka Shaq is a retired NBA star who, apart from his incredible talents on the court was known and is still known for his gigantic physique. He played college basketball at Louisiana State University under the direction of coach Dale Brown. His stature and impressive play attracted the attention of the NBA and immediately he was drafted by Orlando Magic as the first choice in the 1992 NBA draft. Shaq came to the NBA with a very athletic and well-adjusted look.
Shaquille O’Neal Height
Standing 7 ft 1 high, Shaq attracted attention because of his height. However, he is not the greatest NBA player ever, this title was won by Manute Bol who dominated at 7 ft 7 inch followed by Yao Ming who turns at 7 ft 6 in. However, Manute and Ming may have been taller, but Shaq had an impressive physique that was physically imposing, he was very active and fast regardless of his height.
Shaq’s height and agility obviously gave him an advantage over his opponents as he became the 1992/1993 Rookie of the Year. Dunking was also an easy feat because he could reach the basket without having to jump too high. His success rate of 58.2% ranks him third in the NBA’s all-time list.
How much did Shaq weigh?
Shaq has shared his weight throughout the course of his four championship wins and current status. During those times, he weighed in at an impressive 325 pounds, a figure that remains unchanged to this day.
- 2000 Lakers: 345 pounds
- 2001 Lakers: 365 pounds
- 2002 Lakers: 395 pounds
- 2005 Heat: 325 pounds
- Current: 375 pounds
Shaquille O’Neal’s weight fluctuated during his time in the NBA. During his championship-winning years with the Los Angeles Lakers, he was listed at 315 pounds; however, when he moved to Miami Heat for two seasons, that number increased to 335 and 340 pounds respectively. Finally, while playing for Miami Heat Shaq was consistently listed as 325 pounds.
Sim Bhullar holds the record for the highest listed weight in NBA history, at 360 pounds. This record has been held since his brief stint with the Kings in 2015. However, among players who have spent a full season playing in the league, Priest Lauderdale takes top honors with 343 pounds during his 1996-97 season with the Hawks. The only active player currently listed above 300 pounds is Tacko Fall of Boston Celtics fame at 311 pounds; an impressive feat considering he stands 7 feet 5 inches tall!
Shaq was an unstoppable force on the court, combining power and footwork with a deft touch to dominate his opponents. His size was used as an advantage due to his remarkable agility for someone of his stature.
Shaq’s size was likely a factor in his performance, and while it may be an exaggeration to say he pushed 400 pounds, the fact remains that he had become too large for optimum efficiency. His physical stature may have contributed to his success on the court but ultimately hindered him from reaching peak performance levels.
Shaquille O’Neal’s Shoe Size
Since the Los Angeles Lakers moved from Minneapolis to California, they have had many all-star players grace their roster. While Michael Jordan never donned a Lakers jersey, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, and Kobe Bryant were some of the most memorable names in franchise history. However, none left an impression quite as large as Shaquille O’Neal’s time with “The Lake Show”. From 2000-2004 he led them to three consecutive NBA Championships and cemented his name among the greatest Laker legends ever.
Shaq was an incredible presence on the court during his time in the NBA, particularly when playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. His extraordinary height and immense physical strength made him one of basketball’s most intimidating figures; he was truly a force to be reckoned with.
Shaq’s presence in the paint was simply unstoppable. His physical style of play was unparalleled, and no one wanted to have to go up against him near the rim. It could only be described as a form of “bully ball” – his sheer strength and size made it impossible for anyone else to contain him.
Shaq O’Neal was a giant among giants, standing head and shoulders above other 7-footers in terms of size. This is especially true when it comes to his shoe size; Shaq’s feet were truly larger than life.
Shaq’s Shoe Size: A Size 22 Fits His Game Perfectly
Shaquille O’Neal, despite being shorter than three of the tallest centers to ever play in the NBA at 7-foot-5 or above, was able to succeed due to his physical build. He was a force on the court that could not be matched by players of similar size and stature. His strength and agility allowed him to dominate opponents regardless of their height advantage over him.
He is one of the most recognizable basketball players in history, and his size plays a large role in that. His feet are especially impressive – at 7-foot-1 tall, Shaq wears Size 22 shoes, the same size as fellow Hall of Fame center Bob Lanier. This makes him even bigger than Kevin Durant and Yao Ming who both wear Size 18 shoes.
Shaquille O’Neal’s large feet make it impossible for him to simply shop in a department store and purchase shoes off the shelf; instead, he has to have them custom-made in order to find basketball shoes that fit his size.
In 1991, O’Neal signed a deal with Reebok to produce signature shoes for him, known as the Shaq Attaq’s. These were released during his time playing for the Orlando Magic and have since become iconic basketball footwear.
Former NBA player, Shaq weigh recently signed a deal with Dunkman to distribute his signature discount sneakers at retailers worldwide, including Walmart. The iconic dunk of the former player has become synonymous with the brand and is now used as its logo.
In his debut season, Shaq’s weight was an estimated 230 lbs. His body measurements were recorded as seen below.
Chest – 57 in or 145 cm
Arms / Biceps – 20 in or 51 cm
Waist – 48 in or 122 cm
However, when Shaq left for Los Angeles Lakers in 1996, he gradually began to lose his form. Fast forward to 2004 and the Shaq, once a tonic, had added nearly 100 pounds to weigh about 370 pounds. It turned out that Shaq was intentionally trying to increase his weight to improve his endurance and prolong his superior game, as he was tired of being pushed around the pole during the off-season just after the Lakers won the championships. To achieve this, Shaq added more meat and potatoes to his meals and fat began to accumulate, although he first achieved his goal, the long-term sequelae were unexpected.
Shaq did little or nothing to improve the situation, as he continued to visit hamburger restaurants more often than fitness centers. Later, he was traded to Miami Heats where he worked hard to lose a few pounds in order to start his game. Despite his weight, Shaq still had an above-average basketball career that spanned nearly two decades – his many awards are proof of that, not to mention his net worth of $400 million. However, some speculate that Shaq would have done more than he would have done if he had religiously kept his weight under control.
His retirement in 2011 saw Shaq build even more ponds. He made the transition in the media as a sports analyst and also became a businessman.
A body as gigantic as expected is accompanied by a gigantic shoe size. Shaq is wearing size 22 shoes.
