Lebanon-born, multi-talented musician and political activist Serj Tankian is best known for his influence in the music industry, but few people are aware of his political involvement and his active role as an activist. Serj Tankian Biography (Age)
Serj has several nationalities, his parents are both Armenian, but he was born in Lebanon, where he lived for eight years before emigrating with his parents to the United States, to Los Angeles, in 1975. Born in Lebanon, the Armenian-American is a singer and songwriter, instrumentalist, composer, record producer, poet, and political activist.
He was born on August 21, 1967. His father, Khatchadour Tankian, was born in Aleppo, Syria, to Armenian parents and was himself a musician. His mother Alice Tankian is also Armenian, but unlike Serj’s father, she was born in Armenia. Serj is the firstborn of his parents, he has a younger brother named Sevag.
Serj Tankian plays various musical instruments. He plays piano, guitar, bass guitar, violin, drums, and much more. When his parents emigrated to the United States, his English was not very well developed, as he had initially grown up in a non-English-speaking country.
He studied at the Armenian school Rose and Alex Pilibos, which has the reputation of being bilingual and mainly welcomes Armenian immigrants to the United States. Formation Of System of a Down
Although the system of defeat was the turning point for Serj Tankian, what most people don’t know is that it wasn’t his first band. Serj’s first band was called Soil and consisted of 75% members of the famous Down-Band System of Down like Armenian-American singer-songwriter Shavo Odadjian, American singer-songwriter Daron Malakian, and Domingo Laranio, the local Hawaiian drummer. The five-piece group later broke up, so Serj and two others formed a new band, now popularly known as the System of a Down.
After the departure of ex-band drummer Domingo Laranio, he was replaced by System of a Down pioneer drummer Ontronik Khachaturian, who was also an occasional member of the Soil. Ontronik Khachaturian was later replaced by the current drummer of the band, John Dolmayan.
All four members of the band are of Armenian descent. Three of the band members are immigrants from the United States, except the youngest band member, Daron Malakian, who was born in Hollywood, California, one year after his parents immigrated to the United States.
The band was formed in 1994 and released its first album in 1998, which was a self-titled System of a Down. A second album, Toxicity, was released in 2001, which received so much praise from their fans and was called the best album the band has released to date. The band then dropped 3 more albums.

In 2005 the band won the European Music Awards for the best alternative act. In 2006 they also won the MTV Good Woodie Award for the song Question and the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock.
In May 2006, the members announced shockingly that they would take a break. This led to Serj going solo. Since his solo activity in 2006, Serj has released a few hits and high-selling albums. In November 2010 System of a Down officially announced the return of the band.
