Career

Sebastian’s career began in 2003 when he switched to open racing and won the German Formula BMW Championship in 2004 with 18 wins out of 20 races. In 2005 in the Formula 3 Euro Series Sebastian was already in fifth place and won the highest rookie honor. The following year he made his first ascent as a test driver for Sauber in Formula 1, but he was not yet able to bring in the championship.

Despite his wins and his high reputation as a racing prodigy, Sebastian Vettel was unable to make it past fourth place in his first 21 races. Things changed in 2007, however, when he was confirmed as a BMW test driver for 2007. The following year he took his first victory in the 2008 Italian Grand Prix and became the world’s youngest F1 race winner after breaking the record set by Fernando Alonso – the Spanish Formula 1 racer currently driving for McLaren-Honda.

This impressive performance by Sebastian, who was then named Rookie of the Year at the annual Autosport Awards, led the Red Bull to select him as its driver for the 2009 season, and in the first year, he finished as the youngest runner-up in the World Drivers’ Championship. In 2010 he won five races, including the penultimate race of the F1 season, the Brazilian Grand Prix, and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the end of the season. His victory in the penultimate race of the F1 season gave Red Bull its first Manufacturers’ Championship, while his victory in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix made Sebastian the youngest driver to win the drivers’ World Championship. He was 23 years old at the time. In the same year, he continued his first championship with three more titles in a row and became the youngest double, triple and quadruple world champion in Formula One.

Sebastian became more confident after winning 11 of 19 Grands Prix, taking pole position 15 times, and becoming the youngest champion in a row. This lasted until 2014 when he had some difficulties, but later that year he left the Red Bull team and moved to Ferrari to start the 2015 season. With around seven podiums and 212 points, he finished third in 2015 and fourth in 2016.

In 2017, Sebastian maintained his 100% podium finish after winning in Australia and Bahrain and extending his lead to 13 points. He was the fifth man in history to win 90 F1 podiums, and after finishing seventh in the UK he became 46th.
