Scott Dixon Biography

Scott Dixon was born on 22 July 1980 in Brisbane, Australia’s most populous city, as the son of New Zealand parents Ron and Glenys Dixon, and began his car racing career at the age of seven with karting. He caught the attention of the New Zealand population at the age of 13 when he was granted a competition license for limousine racing and won the New Zealand Formula V Championship. Not only did he astound spectators with his excellent racing skills, but Dixon was also increasingly determined to win every series of the racing championship he competed in.

 Career Detail

After his great victory in the New Zealand Formula V Championship in 1994, he successfully completed the Formula Ford Class 2 series with 13 wins from 14 races and the entire New Zealand Formula Ford Championship in 1995 and 1996. By 1998, Dixon had won the Formula Holden series, which took him into the Australian V8 Supercar series, but he did not accept this. Instead, he moved to the USA to test in the Indy Lights series.

Between 2002 and 2003 Scott Dixon was the youngest winner of a major open-wheel event (Nazareth 2002). This happened after he broke the track record on his eighth lap and signed with Johansson Motorsports Indy Lights Team. Although the year ended tragically for him, his teammate and friend, Tony Renna, died at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway while training for his first session with the team. Things turned out well for Dixon in 2008 when he won from pole position at Homestead on the opening lap of the 2008 IndyCar Series season. He also won the Indianapolis 500 and was honored as New Zealand’s Sportsman of the Year 2008. Not only that but he was also recognized as the longest-serving driver in team history.

In his racing career, he has been successful time and again. At the start of the IndyCar Series’ 14th season, Dixon finished sixteenth and fifteenth in the first two races at St. Pete and Long Beach. He then took eight podium finishes, winning one in Kansas, Milwaukee, Richmond, Mid-Ohio, and Motegi, a second in Chicago, and a third in Texas, Watkins Glen, and Edmonton. Dixon won seven races and finished third in the championship three times between the 2010 and 2012 seasons. He also won the Sunoco-powered Pocono IndyCar 400 in Long Pond, Pennsylvania in 2013 and the following year won two races and finished third in the championship, making him New Zealand Sportsman of the Year at the Halberg Awards.

Between 2015 and 2017, he won his first Indycar race of the season at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, as well as his second 500 pole position at Indianapolis, winning Phoenix and Watkins Glen, and then his best finish at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in 2017.
