Sasha Roiz is an Israeli-Canadian actress. He is best known for his role as Captain Sean Renard in the fantastic television series Grimm which was created in October 2011 and ended in March 2017. The end of the series was sad news for most fans who simply hadn’t finished seeing more of their favorite stars in action.
Roiz is also known for films such as Unthinkable (2010) Extracted (2012) and Pompeii (2014). Read on to learn more about him.
Sasha Roiz Bio
Sasha Roiz was born on October 21 1973 in Tel Aviv Israel to Russian Jewish parents. He has a brother named Elan Roiz.
When Sasha was 6 years old his family moved to Montreal Canada where he spent most of his childhood. Following his passion for theatre which developed very early in his life Roiz enrolled in a theatre school in Montreal. It was after he joined a rock band called Tricky Woo as a drummer.

Roiz planned to stick to only theater acting however when he relocated to Toronto TV and film roles started coming his way. “I wanted to be a theater actor. I really had no intention of being in TV or film” he told Grape Vine in 2016.
Sasha then moved to England where he obtained a theatre degree from the Guildford School of Acting in Guildford Surrey.
His acting career officially began in 2001 when he made his debut in an episode of the television series Largo Winch. He continued to take small roles in television shows including Playmakers and Missing.
In 2004 Roiz made his debut as a feature film in a supporting role in “The Day After Tomorrow” which was a huge success with $544.3 million out of a $125 million budget to become the 6th most lucrative film of 2004. In the mid-2000s Roiz appeared in Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) Land of the Dead (2005) and Man of the Year (2006).
Roiz has also appeared in popular television series such as NCIS CSI: Miami The Mentalist CSI: Crime Scene Investigation House and more.
In 2010 he played in the science fiction drama Caprica a derivative of Battlestar Galactica. Sasha’s role in Sam Adama quickly expanded to become a regular series. Due to low ratings the program was canceled after the first season.
However, the following year in 2011 Sasha will play the role of Captain Fox in Grimm which will become his most popular role. On Grimm Roiz has shown his versatility by playing in films such as Extracted (2012) and Pompeii (2014).

The character of King in Caprica was later revealed in the film as gay. This led to speculation about Shasha’s actual sexual orientation.
Roiz himself revealed that he perceived the character as an interesting character and as an opportunity to explore the relationship between a gay character in a science fiction movie.
“Many of my friends are homosexual and I certainly have no tolerance for anyone who has any ignorance or restriction in people’s lives or love lives” Sasha once said.
In 2012 Sasha started dating Asha Leo but they broke up a year later in 2013. Since then Sasha has never been related to another woman. He keeps his romantic life very secret. Lovers of travel photography Sasha’s Instagram story is flooded with photos of him visiting exotic places.
The only love in Sasha’s life according to his social media report seems to be his cute little dog Bernie The Pooh. He loves the dog so much that he has even opened a separate Instagram account for it.
In his interview with Grapevines as mentioned above Sasha expressed the wish to be married one day and have children. But by 2017 the shirtless rage that Zauberbiest (hello Grimm fans) is still single still seems to be.
When Sasha Roiz doesn’t act he collects money somewhere for a cause. He is the founder of the Grimmster Foundation at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

After spending a year with the Montreal Theatre troupe the 29-year-old actor decided to move to Toronto and pursue his career in film. This marked the beginning of his cinematic biography which has since then been filled with many successes.
In 2005 Sasha Roiz was awarded the Mask Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 2007 he relocated to the United States and chose Los Angeles as his new home. In 2009 the hit show Lie To Me premiered and propelled actor Miguel Roiz to stardom. Shortly after this, he received a permanent role in the science fiction movie Caprica. Unfortunately despite its popularity with viewers and critics alike Lie To Me was canceled after just one season due to low ratings. Nonetheless, it remains an important milestone in Roiz’s career which helped him become a rising star.
Sasha Roiz rose to new heights as an actor through his roles in the popular projects House M.D. in which he played Sergeant Driscoll from Season 7 to Season 10 and Grimm where he was recognized for his role of Captain Sean Renard. On the set of Grimm which aired from 2011-2017, Sasha worked alongside Claire Coffee who portrayed his love interest throughout the series.
In 2014 Kiefer Sutherland portrayed Senator Corvus in the disaster movie Pompeii with actor Kit Harington taking on the role of his assistant. The film was a great success and showcased both actors’ talents to their fullest potential.
In 2016 the Canadian swapped his nationality for that of an American citizen.
