He became IFL Heavyweight Champion in 2007 before the IFL was merged. In 2010 he moved to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) where he continued to be successful. His contract with Bellator MMA was an all-around contract and his first fight took place on September 23rd, 2017, which he won by unanimous decision against Javy Ayala.
