Ricky Rubio is the middle child of Tona Vives (mother) and Esteve Rubio (father), who belong to the Spanish ethnic group. Tona had the basketball player on October 21, 1990, in El Masnou, Catalonia, Spain. He has an older brother named Marc Rubio, a talented basketball player in the Spanish professional league, and a younger sister named Laia Rubio.
Ricky lost his mother, Tona, to lung cancer in May 2016 after fighting the disease for four years. In his prime, Ricky has already experienced a life-long cancer tragedy – he lost his grandmother, Maria Rosa, to liver cancer at the age of 10, while his grandfather, Vicente, died of lung cancer at the age of only 12.
