Inspired by his father, Paul Bruce Perkins, who played in the NFL for a while, Paul Perkins II one day aspired to become a professional footballer. He worked towards that goal and today Paul plays in the NFL as a running back.

His dreams came true when the New York Giants voted him into the 5th round/149th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Find out everything you need to know about Perkins and his journey to the top tier of national football.

Paul Perkins Bio

Perkins was born Paul Kerry Perkins II on November 16, 1994, in Mesa, Arizona. During his interview with the New York Post in 2016, Paul Perkins revealed that his NFL dream began when he saw his father’s match balls displayed in his room, which inspired him to want to play football at the highest level. Paul’s father played in the full-back position. Before playing in the NFL, he played college football at Arizona State. Interestingly, Paul’s roots in soccer reach beyond his father.

His great uncle Don Perkins was an even more popular soccer player. Don is his grandfather’s brother. Like Paul’s father, Don played as a defensive player and began his NFL career in 1960, is one of the first players signed by the Dallas Cowboys who had just received the football franchise.

He then spent his entire 8-year career with the Dallas Cowboys. Don was an outstanding player and was named NFL rookie of the year in his rookie season in 1961. He was called to the Pro Bowl 6 times and made it to the All-Pro three times. In honor of his services to the Dallas Cowboys team, Paul’s uncle was awarded the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor, which is now hanging in the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Although Paul Perkins had an uncle with such a wealth of experience in soccer, he didn’t get to see much of his uncle as a child because they lived in different states.

Paul Perkins began his career at Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona. In addition to soccer, Perkins also pursued athletics and was named MVP of the athletics team in his senior year. Also in his senior year, he was on the first team in the All-State draft, an honor he received after running for 1,297 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Perkins was ranked a 3-star athlete by Rivals.com. He tried to follow in his father’s footsteps to play football in the state of Arizona, but the school did not interest him much. As a result, he wanted to lobby for UCLA to play for the Bruins on the school team. Perkins was dressed in red in his true freshman year and started playing for the team in 2013. In his sophomore year, he had worked his way up from being a replacement for starter Jordon James to a starter fullback.
