Nicole has had it hard from the beginning. Simply put, she’s always been a hustler. She was born on August 20th, 1976 in Lake Orion, where she also grew up and attended Lake Orion High School, which she graduated in 1994 at the age of 18. Curtis grew up poor, and as if that wasn’t enough, her life became complicated when she got pregnant in high school.
The father of her baby was Steve Cimini. Many authorities reported that she was later married to him, but they divorced in 2009. Despite her pregnancy, Curtis was determined to make something of herself. She attended college in Georgia, Florida, and took many odd jobs to survive, including working at Hooters, a restaurant known for its scantily clad waitresses.
Shortly before graduating college, Curtis gave birth to a son named Ethan.
After her relationship with Ethan’s father ended, Curtis began dating Shane Maguire, a businessman from Minnesota. Their relationship went well until she became pregnant sometime in 2015. Nicole was 38 years old at that time.
Since she was already a TV star at that time, Nicole was ashamed to have to raise a child alone for the second time and at the age of almost 40.

She then tried to hide the pregnancy from the public. During the shooting for her show, she asked the cameramen not to show her growing hump, and when she was out at public events, she wore black clothes and held her dog strategically high to cover her belly.
“I was afraid of being judged,” she told People.
But later, to the shock of her fans, she revealed that she was expecting a baby. Her baby daddy, Shane Maguire, insisted on a paternity test, which turned out positive. The baby, Harper, born in 2015.
When Harper was 6 months old, Shane applied for joint custody of his son, and the custody battle began with breastfeeding as the main topic of conversation. At the age of 6 months, the court agreed to a biweekly visitation by Maguire.
As Harper grew, his father Shane was given more time to spend with him, including overnight visits. However, Curtis has argued that prolonged absence from Harper would hinder the weaning she practices with her son. However, Shane sees this as just her way of getting him to spend less time with Harper.
“It’s important for children to have both parents. But preventing [me] from breastfeeding my child just so he can see the father is not right,” Curtis told People.

Nicole Curtis came from humble beginnings. To make ends meet and graduate college, she worked in a series of odd jobs. However, she left the college where she studied to be a teacher to start her own cleaning business.
She attributed her poor background to her creative talent.
“I’ve always decorated very eclectically, partly because I was poor. Being poor makes you very creative. If you have money, you don’t have to be creative,” she once said to DIY.
As a child, Curtis took weekend trips to Detroit suburbs like Flint and Saginaw. It was during this time that she fell in love with the classic old-style American villas.
Thanks to her love and passion for these rustic homes, Curtis purchased a 1945 rancher-style home in Tampa, Florida through a land contract at the age of only 18. The monthly payments for the house were less than $600.
In the late 1990s, Curtis began renovating old houses in Tampa, Atlanta, and Minneapolis that were scheduled for demolition, starting with their old family property. Little by little, she expanded into new areas. In 2012, she sold a house in Minneapolis, which she had bought for $1, for $145,000 after spending $100,000 on its renovation.

Her foray into television began when she was discovered by the DIY network. DIY was looking for a real estate agent in Minneapolis when they discovered Curtis’ website, which featured “glamour shots” photos. The producers were impressed and invited her for a test shoot, and the rest is history. Rehab Addict premiered in 2010 and was incredibly successful.
Besides Rehab Addict she has another show with David Bromstad and Josh Temple called Beach Flip. She also owns a self-titled design company.
