Marcus Scribner: What We Know About The Black-ish Star and His Parents

If you’ve seen ABC’s hit show Black-ish, then you surely know Marcus Scribner and his impeccable comedic timing. While Anthony Anderson is undeniably the star of the sitcom series, it’s fair to say that Marcus Scribner is the show’s breakout star – which says something when you consider that the show also features Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi, Marsai Martin, Deon Cole, and Jenifer Lewis.

On Black-ish he plays Andre “Junior” Johnson Jr., the son of the main characters (Dre and Rainbow), and the typical nerd archetype. Junior is technologically savvy and a big fan of fictional fantasy worlds, which makes him stand out among his rather superficial family members (like his father and older sister) and the rest of the world like a sore thumb. However, it’s Junior’s unique point of view and his difference from most of the characters in the series that makes him a pleasure to watch and allows him to create many comedic highlights of the episodes.

Scribner’s excellent portrayal of Junior made him a very interesting subject for fans of the series, which further increased the need to know everything about him.

Who is Marcus Scribner and How Old is He?

Marcus Scribner is an American actor and dubbing actor born on January 7, 2000, in the famous Cedar-Sinai Medical Center, which is probably one of the most famous hospitals in the world. The non-profit hospital in the exclusive Beverly Grove district of Los Angeles has witnessed the birth of many other famous people, including Frances Bean Cobain, Michael Joseph Jackson Jr (Michael Jackson’s son), Valentina Paloma Pinault (Salma Hayek’s daughter), Harper Beckham (David Beckham’s daughter) and Saint West (Kim Kardashian’s son).

Marcus’ name comes from Greek and Roman mythology, just like his father “Troy” and his younger sister “Athena”. He also has a dog named Zeus. When he was younger, Marcus attended a mainly Jewish primary school and started acting when he was just seven years old. Originally he was a shy child and was mainly interested in sports, but after he attended an acting class he fell in love with it. Nevertheless, he still enjoys sports like lacrosse and basketball as well as video games. Although he is not a musician, Marcus Scribner also plays the clarinet.

His Acting Career and Meteoric Rise to Fame

The young actor began his professional career at the age of 10 when he played a role in the ABC television show Castle. He then appeared in the Fox hit show New Girl together with Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, and Max Greenfield. Later he was cast for a supporting role in the Nickelodeon sitcom – Wendell & Vinnie. Marcus didn’t get a lead role until he was fourteen (which for many people can be early) when he was cast in a black-like cast.

The casting of a lead role on a major network was a big deal and a turning point in the actor’s career. He had beaten Anthony Anderson’s actual son Nathan to be cast as the son of Anthony Anderson’s character. However, because of his excellent work in the series, it’s hard to imagine that someone else could take on the role of Junior. He auditioned for the role when he was only thirteen years old, and the pilot was made into a movie a year later. He explains that auditioning for the role was a little easier for him because he identified strongly with the character he was going to play.

For the role of Junior, he won a 2016 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Performance by a Youth. Other actors who have won this prestigious award include Denzel Washinton, LeVar Burton, Raven-Symoné, Keke Palmer, and Lynn Whitfield. It is safe to say that his career is off to a good start in such a prestigious league.

Besides the black Marcus Scribner, he has also been in The Good Dinosaur (2015), Alexander IRL (2017), Castle (2010), New Girl (2012), Wedding Band (2012), Wendell & Vinnie (2013), American Dad! (2016), At Home: Adventures with Tip & Oh (2016), She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018), etc.

Who are His Parents and Family Members?

Marcus was born into a close-knit American family that is very dear to his heart. While his father is known as Troy Scribner, his mother’s name is currently unknown. It is known that Marcus Scribner is American, but he is also of mixed race. The young actor, just like his character on Black-Isch, is of mixed ethnicity thanks to his mother (who is half black and half white). His father’s family is originally from Los Angeles, while his maternal grandmother is from England.

Marcus is not his parents’ only child. He has a younger sister whose name is given as Athena Scribner. There are not many details about his sister and what she is doing right now.
