Many initially believed that Kofi Kingston came from Jamaica. This is said to be due to the superstar’s decision to identify himself as Jamaican in the early days of his career. He imagined that it would be easier for him to be accepted in the wrestling community if he were a fighter with the same heritage as Bob Marley, the late international reggae icon.
Today, however, it is common knowledge that the man is an American wrestler born in Ghana. Records show that he was born Kofi Krishnan Sarkodie-Mensah as the son of his parents Kwasi and Elizabeth Sarkodie-Mensah on August 14th and in 1981 in Kumasi, Ghana.

Kofi and his two siblings, Kwame (brother) and Nana Akua (sister), first grew up in the West African country before the family moved to the United States of America.
